OLD SOLDIERS

OLD SOLDIERS

Getting visits from the past,

Memories are sure to last…

Memories speeded

By comments reseeded,

Those familiar scenes recast.

Visits by the formerly employed,

Help those who remember be buoyed…

A touch of light

Kindled by the sight,

Familiarity from the void.

Old friends coming home to stay,

For a short time, anyway…

Trying to catch up

In one meeting abrupt,

One hangs on every word that they say.

Ah, the memories of things no more,

That happiness and sadness stored…

For when days are slow

Memories that you know,

May still tickle down to the core!
