Waiting Flowers

Friendly Fairy Tales

Closed tulips

On this rainy day,
Cold damp enters the stem,
Stiffening the buds.
Red veins dry to yellow.
Petals close tightly,
Waiting for the sun.
Waiting for the bees.
Waiting for the children.

Splashing in rain puddles,
Muddy in and out of boots,
Fragrance of a young girl,
Laughing honeyed breaths
Of magic youth.
Flowers watching,
Green with envy.
Red with longing.

Brothers clap and mother groans,
Wet mud rises in fountains,
Falls in joyful splatters.
Rain mixes with laughter:
Child magic.
The sun hears.
Clouds part.
Flowers open.
