My wife and I had cats,

Who engaged in ownership spats…

Which one they’d own

Of humans alone,

A varied and difficult task.

And then we were down to one,

Who followed our setting sun…

Loss of the house

No catching a mouse,

Once apartment living had begun.

We thought we’d done our best and tried

To keep him til he died…

As things stood

On the edge of our woods,

His body in state resides.

Like my picking blackberries,

Our doctors insist we be wary…

Of each little scratch

That we catch,

Less cellulitis we’ll carry.

We seem cornered ’bout a kitty,

‘Cause the doctors say it won’t be pretty…

Infection by claws

Should cause pause,

Too risky for us to get a kitty???
