EXCELLENT STORY—I’VE BEEN THROUGH SIMILAR EXPERIENCES IN SOME ASPECTS….I GRAVITATED TOWARD THE MARTYS….
Today’s story more closely fits the serious part of the theme of No Facilities. This story started 50 years ago this week and my telling it is long overdue.
I met Marty on the playground on my first day of 5th grade. Marty and I were not so much drawn to each other as we were both squeezed out like asteroids in the wake of Jupiter’s gravity. Cliques were forming around cool kids, around smart kids and around junior jocks but many ordinary kids didn’t seem to fit into those nascent groups.
I didn’t fit in because I was a new kid and the economy, demographics and the quality of the schools in the town I had come from were just not up to the new standard by which I was being judged. Marty didn’t fit in because Marty never fit in. He was awkward. He had unmanageable…

Thanks for helping to spread this one around. I would like to think that we could get to a point where nobody was treated lie this. BTW, not sure if it’s a random picture or a new one but the colors of the Providence and Worcester RR (same as New Haven RR) are my favorite.

The blog banner is new—in clearing out my picture files I deleted the river scene. Found this one specifically becausee the P & W crosses over the lower Mumford River at this point….in North Uxbridge, Mass.

I am a fan! there’s something about that color combination. The big block print of the NH RR is the thing I like to see the most. I have tried to get pictures when I’ve gone through New Haven as they still run a few of those Locos on the CT commuter line. I have some, but I don’t have a good one.
