MY PASSING FRIEND
–
She’s the only one who remarked
About my freshly shorn hair…
The one who always stops
To smile when I’m there.
–
She is a good friend in passing
Nearly every night…
Never for harassing
But for spreading delight!
–
The ending of Sarah’s workday
Near the beginning of mine….
Coincides with a pleasant exchange
For one passing point of time.

What a good poem.
I love the picture of the train at the top of your site.

I wanted to add more than just a good poem. It was beautiful its simplicity. And a surprising ending that the friendship was brought about by her noticing things about you and seeing her every night.

There’s a longer story to this. I had noticed her during last summer whren she and a number of students were interns—when most of the group was hired, we continued our pleasantries back and forth. I expect she will read this poem about herself sooner or later, when she has the time. (Yes, I’m talking about you, Sarah!). After passing her a couple of samples, she is one of the few ( ? ) who actively check this blog regularly, outside of the blogging community. 🙂
