Hand-me-downs formed an integral part of my childhood. Being the youngest of 5 with two older sisters gave me ample opportunities to score some twice-broken-in attire. The best was when my cousin Rachel would clean out her closet. Oh, getting those kitchen-sized white garbage bags filled to the brim was like Christmas for me. I’ll never forget that feeling. Pulling out entire matching outfits, trying on über cool jackets, running my hands along the softest of culottes, unable to imagine how profoundly having these clothes would impact my life. Wondering how in the WORLD she could be done with these already, and how was I lucky enough to be on the receiving end of it all?

It’s safe to say I haven’t received hand-me-downs in a while. So it was a pleasant surprise when my sweet suegra pulled these two suede gems that she used to rock in the 70’s…
