By now you have likely heard about the increasingly viral story of Brelyn Bowman and her father, Pastor Mike Freeman. Pastor Freeman glowingly shared on social media the fact that his daughter presented to him, on her wedding day, a “Certificate of Purity.” Brelyn wrote on Instagram that she “present[ed] a certificate of purity to [my father] signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact.” This fact — that Brelyn has an intact hymen — is the evidence used to demonstrate that she preserved her “purity” until her wedding day.

There are problems with this scenario, which many internet commentators have addressed. For example, there are plenty of non-sexual activities one can engage in that can break a person’s hymen — riding a bike, gymnastics, even performing a worship dance in your church. His Dad in hospital bloody…

internal bleeding

His life receding,

The future looked muddy.

Had little to do so blogged,

Blogged and blogged and blogged…

Wrote poetry

Piled up to the knee,

Enjoying reactions when logged!

That double shift took me out,

Missing church that Sunday–slept it out…

Managed to write

That Sunday night,

But I am all poured out!!!

Did a couple of “biggies” today,

Before wending my way…

To employment

And further enjoyment,

Lonely Author: My First Pedicure

HEY—THEY’RE ONLY TOE NAILS!!!! BUT I FIND IT HARD TO REACH ALL THE WAY DOWN THERE TO WASH, LOTION, ETC,!

“You never had a pedicure?” Stunned, my wife and daughter stared at me.

Maybe the Chimp needed to get in touch with his feminine side.

Coming home from my doctor’s appointment, I journeyed into a beauty salon.

To ignore the strange looks from the women I picked up a magazine.  Apparently, Caitlyn Jenner doesn’t feel like a woman anymore.

A tiny Asian woman led me to chair that stood above a tub. Removing my sneakers, socks, and rolling up my jeans, I sank my feet into the warm water.

I could get used to this.

I started clever salon conversation. “Are you excited about the new season of ‘The Voice?’”

The thin woman next to me made awful sounds with her gum as if she learned to chew by watching cattle grazing.

Forget the conversation.

This Chimp knows there’s no greater turn off than a man with crusty nails. So…
