British Summer Time*

The sun has got its hat on:
Rare cause for celebration!!
The simultaneous signal
To disrobe across the nation…
The clouds now in abeyance
But who knows for how long,
It’s time to get near-naked,
Join the sun-worshippers’ throng.
Is this what other nations mean
By British ‘eccentricity’?
-The stripping off at the drop of a hat
Risking carcinogenicity?
The miniscule gradations
Of skin colour’s hue
Requiring dedicated hours
Of Nothing, it’s true:
Except perhaps a uniform
Of questionable style
Believing near-nakedness
Will genuinely beguile
As long as all essential bits
Are modestly concealed
As much for sun protection
As for too much being revealed..!
So don’t forget the sunscreen
Lest you favour lobster pink:
It may eventually turn to tan
But it’s riskier than you think.
…Just one more thing to contemplate
Among the preparations-
Don’t forget your waterproofs,
Summer uniform of the Nation!
