I was once like him,

A qualified active trainman…

Gave up the hat,

Ticket punch and all that,

The point is, I no longer can!

I’m too unsteady on my feet,

Even if my uniform were complete…

Hard with a cane

To be limber on a train,

But for a while it was a treat!

Not that there’s anywhere close

Where I could assume that post…

Too far to travel—

Opportunity’s unraveled,

All but the fine memories…are lost.
