Why does Medicare/Medicaid want to put the elderly in nursing homes, when A.L.F.’s are almost half the price?

Today I was watching the Newcastle – Huddersfield game at the gym, while on the upside down Bosu ball, and lifting weights.  One of the ladies I always say ‘Hello’ to, was on a treadmill close to me.

We started talking, and got onto the subject of caregiving.  Her mother is 97 and in an A.L.F., but the daughter is concerned, because her mother is having to pay with her life savings to stay there.  She has to spend down to $2,000 before Medicare/Medicaid kicks in.

Her mother knows where she is in the A.L.F., and it is going to be so hard to have to move her to a nursing home.  A.L.F.’s are cheaper than nursing homes, so doesn’t it seem realistic to keep her where she is, and pay the $3,000 a month, instead of $5,000 – $6,000 for a nursing home.  I don’t understand why the government…

About Jonathan Caswell

Poet, author, servant of God the Heavenly father and the Lord Jesus Christ...working out his salvation with fear and trembling. - Not trusting in his own deeds, but depending totally upon the finished sacrificial work of Jesus Christ to be, by God's reckoning, a new creature, clothed in Christ's righteousness...which mortal humankind can never attain by their own weak efforts, apart from faith in Christ's work on our behalf. - College-educated, yet wise enough to see that what a man does will not be his ultimate identity nor affect how God sees him or her. - Called by God to do a very difficult thing...apart from God's grace, mercy and strength...to love the sinner (which we all--by nature--are) but hate the sin, which is only paid through Christ, God's Son, - My own God-given gift is that of being a Poet..showing that in all parts of life...God has a loving part in it...as hard as that is to always understand or perceive...given life's realities! Come join me on my journey of discovery?.

These are Assisted Living Facilities. Mostly only for the rich—or government funded–where a nurse and health aides are available to assist residents with daily living in a home-like atmosphere.
