With taxes and revenue owed,
Operators shut down this railroad…
Blocked storing railcars
Generated no dollars,
Excursions don’t bring in enough gold!
Storing tank cars and hoppers
On idle track drove locals bonkers…
Little freight traffic to conquer!
Locals, counties and state,
Embroiled in debate…
Some at fast clip
Would up the track rip,
A bicycle path promulgate!
The paper mill at the south end,
Could be repurposed then…
Would be one answer to them!
Define how this “river” is flowing…
Who will win
Will the rails stay in,
Or the roadbed have weeds and trees growing?
The rail line from Saratoga, NYS north to Tahawus, NHY,—a former Delaware and Hudson branchline–has been shut down by the present operators for lack of business–and being denied the storage of railcars, which is the one frevenue producer available, bugt is objected to by those who consider the practice an eyesore, in the midst of otherwise prisrine wilderness!
