4. Wales UEFA European Championship 2016

Great anticipation swept Wales when they qualified for their first international tournament since the 1958 World Cup.

Drawn into a difficult group containing England, our first match against Slovakia started tentatively. A goal line clearance from Ben Davies put wind into the sails of the players who finished 2-1 victors. Defeating Russia in the final game saw Wales finish top of their group.

Wales navigated a tough fixture against Northern Ireland to progress to the Quarter Final against Belgium, a team Wales had faced in the qualifiers. This game happened to coincide with my final high school prom which coincidentally was being held at the Millennium Stadium.

Compulsory photographs finished swiftly before an emotional performance of the national anthem. Dinner was shovelled into our mouths without taking our eyes away from the screen. Wales couldn’t put two passes together and Belgium’s dominance saw them take a 1-0 from a Nainggolan…
