MAKING MY ROUNDS…

Making my rounds,

Unofficially of course…

The water bottle needs filling

And I need a couple quarts!

Must check on a project

That hasn’t caught fire yet…

That’s why we keep an eye on it

So it won’t ignite one sec..

Everything’s okay

In the lab being watched…

Got my drink of cold water,

I’m feeling really parched!

NOT JUST REFRIGERATORS.

Some folks clean out the ‘fridge,

Others clean out the mind…

I hesitate a smidge

But some things I am not blind.

Focus on the true and noble,

That’s not always gender and breasts…

Things hung onto are mobile

Think of them as tests!

Who is God and worshipped,

Things of the world or my Lord?

Cast out that strange fire within me

That relations with God are restored!

(There are several key words and phrases, pointing to specific Bible references…will you find them?)

LONELY RAILFANS

Walking in winter wonderlands,

Along a railroad silent for years…

Thinking of times when commerce was alive

And rumbling train cars ran through here.

Coal trains once

Traced these frozen shores….

The kind of trains environmentalists hate—

Smoke scrubbers came too late!

Salt cars run occasionally,

Bringing out wealth from underneath…

Barely enough to keep this line going

When that’s gone, abandonment is brief.

–Jonathan Caswell

(Remembering the line running north from Ithaca, NY, that serviced a coal-fired power plant and a salt mine.  This picture was taken in the same area.)

DO I LOVE MY MOM?

Mom’s been gone since nineteen-ninety,

Struck down by cancer’s scare…

The scare was real and metastisized,

And changed textures of her hair.

Knowledge is one thing, acceptance is all–

Seeing what I early-on missed…

I love my Mother for who she was,

There wasn’t time to be kissed.

You know that sons have mixed feeling for Mom,

Pre-romantic as well as fear…

I wish I could have responded more

Positively (can she hear-?).

Worked through my feelings and I’m free,

To miss her as her younger son…

I wish I could hug her and thank her for all,

In Heaven perhaps that is done!

CHIMP THOUGHTS

When people say “monkey”

A chimp is what they see…

There really IS a difference–

‘Cause chimp means chimpanzee!

The kinds of monkeys far and wide

Confuse people untrained…

In nomenclature of the apes,

The chimp has been miss-named.

But then—monkeys are messy—

Even harder to train…

Whereas a chimp looks cute (?) and all,

With bigger, more willing brains!

Facial expressions of a chimp

Are similar to our kind…

He or she can smile like an imp

When directors have a mind!

LOOKS BRIGHT!

From his window he can see

Beautiful bright sunlight…

From the abyss he was in

He welcomes  this cheerful sight!

Freed from wallowing in despair

Opens up a door…

To lively and fresh air

Quickening hearts once more.

Goes back to sleep–

It’s early yet…

Dreaming deep

Of songbirds’ he won’t forget.

SHE IS YOUNG–I AM OLD!

She is young and I am old,

Not that it should matter…

She flies up around silver clouds

While I cleanup the floor splattered.

I’m not as old as people think,

Although the cane tends to chatter…

Just don’t ask how old I look

For does that really matter?

She makes love sound so deep and sad  and real,

In views I can’t envision….

Nay she keep her wonder as long as she can

Find a man who speaks no derision.

A poetess with a mind like that

Can soar  amongst the eons…

A dreamlike inner beauty she has

Among her peers not peons.

LOVE YA, KID!

LIKE FACE BOOK FOOLISH

LIKE FACE BOOK FOOLISH

Like folks foolish on FACE BOOK,

He has to watch what he writes…

He knows some at work are following

The standards he follows are tight.

He doesn’t want to be foolish

As some on FACE BOOK were…

Take care for every audience

Avoiding the flying of fur!

–Jonathan Caswell

“LOVE DEFINED”

LOVE DEFINED

Love valued and practiced,

States thing very plainly…

Yet shows compassion

To love folks along mainly.

Caring and committed

To seek another’s good…

Daring to befriend the different

And nurturing  green wood.

Choosing sticking up for another,

Sympathetic sitting beside…

Not trying to be frenetic

But in perfect love abide!

–Jonathan Caswell

GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS

GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS:

See the Nutritionist tomorrow,

Tonight he’s trying to crash…

Feeling regretful sorrow

Feeling the blood sugar smash!

He knows she won’t be fooling,

A kind but firm lecture he’ll get…

Failure is not an option

Controlling what he “et”.
