AGE APPROPRIATE SIGHTS

Older guys by rights

Ought to narrow their sights…

The more mature

Thrill men for sure,

And fathers less likely to knock out your lights!

LONG HALLWAY A TREAT

 A long hallway to walk,

For some coffee and “pop”…

Ice cream, too,

Wrapped for you,

A very brief time to shop.

Finding this exercise,

So conveniently-sized…

Needing the cane

Down-back again,

During days, often supervised!

Allowed to walk around,

Upstairs he is less found…

This slower male

Must hustle his tail,

Before he grows too round!

–Jonathan Caswell

A NEEDLE TOO FAR…

Injecting new insulin,

He thought not enough got in…

The first needle dripped

so thus equipped

A second shot he thought would win.

This new stuff five times as strong–

Concentrated– less fluid along…

Lay down short of breath

Tried an hour of rest,

Over-medicated was what he’d done?

Originally at “four-ten”*

Was “one fifty-nine” right then…

One forty-two

After lunch was through,

Ate a bun to the descent stem!

–Jonathan Caswell

*Numbers represent blood sugar concentration levels in the blood when tested.  A “410” is extremely high–dropping down to a level of “142” in an hour’s time is extremely FAST and dangerous!

SPIKED IT AGAIN!

His endocrinologist said,

Get controlled or soon be dead…*

Four-seventy-five

And he’s still alive,

But a little out of his head!

Activated payment card tonight,

For a change in insulin slight…

More concentrated

And highly rated,

To help him learn to fly right.

Management is still key,

Discouragement makes you sloppy…

Takes self-control

To fulfill this role,

It can be done honestly!

–Jonathan Caswell

NOT WHAT’S EXPECTED?

He thought he knew the game,

Is he the one not the same?

Assuming too much

Is his crutch,

Then withdrawing in pain.

Thinking something inside is broken,

Doesn’t do much as a token…

Realized loss–

Counted the cost–

Not willing the results be spoken.

Yet he’s supposed to talk,

And try to walk the walk…

Of someone healed

It’s been revealed,

That all sounds like crock!

Been promised I’ll “go back in”,

If mood deep dives again…

Putting words

In my mouth is absurd,

I’m hooked into the system!

Plus, I’ve been caught lying

About my thoughts of dying…

Brings sudden suspicion

About my condition,

And how much I’m hiding!

–J.E.C.

WARM EMBRACING–STAY WARM!

Sunny, clear and cold,

We celebrate as of old…

A warm embrace

Fingers trace

On skin patterns bold!

Hey–romantic ;love,

Being closer than in a glove…

The day we’re telling

Our heart swelling

Is for our turtle dove!

Presents and cupcakes reign,

Romantic foods by design…

Baubles and things

Give love wings,

Or at least that’s the hoped for sign!

–Jonathan Caswell

NEAR THE END OF THE RUN!

The end is another beginning,

At least we end this one grinning…

My relief arrives

And I say “bye”,

Driving home to end the inning.

I guess he needed to roam,

Less beauty than there was, at home…

He’s older too

Abilities run through,

With less things working when done!

Beauty and conversation,

Not much of the latter this run…

No one got going

I wasn’t showing

Much need for conversation!

Met hew bloggers (to me),

I wonder who visits eventually?

Most will accept

Comments but not step (?)

Into this blog..if just to see.

Thanks to the regulars who tag along,

You are faithful companions–for how long?

When tired of me

Whole new worlds to see,

Each of us in our own ways, move along!

–Jonathan Caswell

THE NEW COMPANY

A few years ago,

MOXIE of Georgia was sold…

A new MOXIE brand

From New England stands,

Heralded as “coming home.”

We MOXIE fans are happy once more,

It’s physically closer to the store…

But not all is nice–

They raised the PRICE

Of DIET MOXIE, which I adore!

I wonder–do they not sell as much,

Is DIET MOXIE harder to push..

Must be a real bugger

To remove that syrup sugar,

For sweetener to be added for us!

–Jonathan Caswell

HOLDING FIRM

Greedy but holding firm,

The boy inside starts to squirm…

Heart-shaped

Cookie baked

With frosting starts to burn.

Into his eyes and mind,

Wanting to his wife be kind…

Puts away

for today,

Out of sight is out of mind?

Sugar shock waxes-wanes,

Supper sits cold, in vain…

Focused feat

On a treat,

Getting back control again!

BAKED BEANS FIT MY DINNER PLANS (A PARODY)

(To….JOSHUA FIT THE BATTLE OF JERICHO)

Baked beans fit my dinner plans,

Dinner plans

dinner plans,

Baked beans fit my dinner plans—

Unfrozen with margarine!
