Closer and closer to time,

Pizza orders climb…

People busy

Cooks are dizzy,

And this sure saves them time!

In nursing home work,

Pizza the common perk…

Folks outside

Would come take aside,

What wasn’t  done when THEY worked!

Tonight, safety training

Is why pizza’s reigning…

Convenient reward

For staying on board,

Munching while knowledge retaining!

Since when was this holiday

A Christian jamboree…

And when was it about Christ’s birth

According to those who should know,

It was Winter Solstice time…

The sun was at its lowest point

And then began to climb…!

Christians–former pagans most–

Denied their revelry…

Church leaders wanted evangelized

Pagans who would see…

Christ’s birth celebrated

In holiness and respect,

Become interested and

Come into the church direct.

When the church went political with Emperor Constantine,

Everyone had to join the thing…

It wasn’t necessarily by choice or belief–

Nonbelievers too

Had their own “underground” pews…

The “old ways” by the faithful stays

But not in public view.

Are the roles reversed,

When Christians can be cursed…?

The church’s power can’t make them cower

Or defeat  a pagan purse.

Most do not see the fetters–

Getting worse before it’s better…

Christ is King but suffering

Is for those whose faith matters.

Keep then looking up,

Your redemption draweth nigh…

We will share the communion cup

Till anew with Christ, alive!

All that heavy metal,

Snow tests its mettle…

If no snow plow

Run through anyhow,

Even small engines are not little!

Found this wonderful view,

Of what we’ll be happy to view…

Slushy roads kissed

By  pea souper mist,

All this is waiting for you!

so…how did the mouse get in,

Regarding us with his mouse grin…

The outside door

Propped open before,

Has let little critters in!

The water heater let go this summer,

Wet, soaked walls are a bummer…

He could have crawled

In the hole in the wall,

From drying the walls this summer!

Our back room is a mess,

Comfortable lodging I’d guess…

I hear that overhead

Many mice are bred,

I pray just one needs be addressed.

I ask for filling–why–

Receiving power on high…

Flaming tongues

For holy ones,

To do and self to die.

Flaming tongues on the Seventy

Elders with Moses to remedy..

His over-reach

Ministering to each,

Israelite in his integrity.

Tongues came onto one-twenty

Disciples of Christ–plenty–

To take His Word

Of salvation unfurled,

Unto many and many!

Elijah and god’s prophets saw

God’s fire filled with awe…

Burn offerings

And revelings

Filled with rebellious flaw.

This holy God I would serve,

Not with my own nerve…

Perilous times

As gold is refined,

I need Holy Spirit verve!

Long ago in college

I reached out and experienced Knowledge…

Fill me again

Oh Lord begin,

To pour into me, Thee I acknowledge!

On my way to work an entrance lane

So often becomes a pain…

What do folks intend

When the KNOW it must end,

Clear signage they’re ignoring again!

One or two actually try passing,

One tells by the speed they’re amassing…

Sneaking by on the right

Close enough to cause fright,

From the car model, they are typecasting.

Some act like it’s the exit ahead,

Common sense in this world appears dead…

Several car-lengths along

Do the realize they were wrong?

I don’t think it enters their heads!

Speaking of turn signals going,

Today a driver was slowing…

Ignored the exit ramp

SPED UP with winking lamp,

Merged into traffic not knowing?

One is tempted to make wisecracks,

Driver’s iicenses in Cracker Jacks…?

In the box as a prize–

Do they not see with eyes–

Thank the Lord the route has no railroad tracks!

–Jonathan Caswell

Rainy night…

By street light…

Draining down

Into ground

Soggy slight…

Shift has changed

Safely in—

And in spite…!

(Tune: TAPS)

Certain times he’ll confess

To any woman he might trust…

Certain things within his soul

He feels are a must.

Not the best way to interest

A female in  his needy quest…

Are more honest!

Almost as though the sharing

Prompted caring…

Exposing is supposing

That she’s willing to allow him in for a time.

He’ll try this with anyone

He thinks will respond…

Even rejection or a small response

Is some kind of accepted response

(Though not the one rarely received–yet hoped for!)

A cross between an mother and a lover,

An impossible cross to be…

Yet be exposed to him “without clothes”

Offering embraces free.

I don’t know anyone who would

Submit to such a scheme…

Apparently can’t get it at home,

But at least the guy can dream!

–Jonathan Caswell

(Another “hypothetical” poem!)

Agitators on their holy ground,

With lots of pawns around…

College kids

With minds on skids,

Easy to push around.

Community organizers

As propaganda advisors…

Marshall troops–

These kids (easy dupes)–

Blind and no wiser!

Welcome to their hell,

For kids organized very well…

Emotion blinds

Rational minds,

Merchandise easy to sell.
