FLOWING DRESSES ON HIS MIND!

Somewhere ‘tween summer and autumn,

A different fabric on bottoms…

Flowing skirts

With blouses or shirts,

Populate streets like flotsam.

‘Specially in college towns

Making the square dance rounds..

.Women who dance

In other than pants,

Gracefully float around!

A counter culture he misses

Are dresses flowing on misses…

The kinder old ways

Fitting younger days,

But few he knows who might have these wishes.

AUTUMN COLORS CHANGING

September is upon us,

Time for the change

Of foliage and hairdos

A time to rearrange

Colorful poison ivy

In red and yellow hues,

Myriad of colors

Shocked by frosty blues.

Hair colors a-changing,

Professional or by box…

Strawberry blonde conservatively

Colors vivacious locks.

The girl or guy underneath

Supposedly the same,

Putting a new face on things

A part of living game!

HAIKU OF EARLY AUGUST!

(Each haiku is an individual poem, though related to the others)

White dots gone from lakes,

Swans are training their young ones…

Soon…to take over!

Last-of-season sales,

Clearing out for winter stock…

Cars, clothes…furniture!

–J.E.C.

Cicada around,

Ringing waves of night time sound…

Sign of Fall’s approach!

Our Cottage refuge,

Once the family respite…

Has met a great fall.

When the landscapers

Remove summer plants and all…

Chrysanthemums awe!

Redheads turn back blonde,

Their hot summer is over…

Cooling off…is fun!

(Don’t “blondes have more fun?”)

Fat flies come indoors,

Escaping Fall’s chill…

People do so, too!

RED AND GOLD

RED AND GOLD

Spectacular is over,

Bright orange and yellows fade….

As do fieldsĀ  of clover

To deep red and golden shade.

Forest trees are showing

Their final parade view…

All but oaks and evergreens

Bearing leaves soon is through.

Funny how model railroads

In New England often use….

This later time to model,

And these particular hues!

The brighter trees quickly fade

Oft in a very few days…

Yet woods like these seem to last

Far into winter’s haze.

GOLDEN AVENUES

GOLDEN AVENUES

Driving home this afternoon,

My “baby” in the car…

Sunlit wonder all around

From a burning orange star,

Trees ablaze in glory

Shielded those trees bare…

Formed a perfect backdrop

For sunlight-scented air!

But I had to hurry

Against the blinding sun…

Didn’t due to worry,

I had to make that run

To get her home and safe…

Would I get to work on time–

I had to keep faith!

Golden avenues along which

We traveled by car…

Lit with welcome light

From a friendly star;

Got the Missus home again

And then off I flew…

Arrived only an hour late–

WHEW!!!!

BRIGHT GLOWING COLORS

BRIGHT GLOWING COLORS

On the ride back I saw

Big trees with colors of awe…

Glowing all day

Till leaves fall away,

On lawns and driveways to sprawl!
