RAINY NIGHT BY STREET LIGHT

Rainy night…

By street light…

Draining down

Into ground

Soggy slight…

Shift has changed

Safely in—

And in spite…!

FAIRIES OF THE AUTUMN?

Going through mythological lines,

Are there fairies for these times…

Coloring leaves

And filling roof eaves,

And helping us have good times?

I’m hardly an authority,

Fairies not my cup of tea…

But it seems

When the wind screams,

who else could it be?

Good and bad in one,

Depending on wind, rain, sun…

Temperature

Contributes I’m sure,

To fairy people to come!

AUTUMNAL EQUINOX

As of ten o’clock this morning ’twas here,

Ending of summer for this year…

The picnics you knew

And the hotdogs chewed,

And friends bring memories’ cheer.

Remember when old and grey,

Bittersweet feelings today…

More coats–no bikinis–

Autumn weather, harvest gleanings–

Perhaps a good time by the bay?

Green turning brown,

Halloween candy’s around…

Colorful days

In cooling haze,

Thanksgiving…soon inbound!

HAIKU OF EARLY AUGUST!

(Each haiku is an individual poem, though related to the others)

White dots gone from lakes,

Swans are training their young ones…

Soon…to take over!

Last-of-season sales,

Clearing out for winter stock…

Cars, clothes…furniture!

–J.E.C.

Cicada around,

Ringing waves of night time sound…

Sign of Fall’s approach!

–J.E.C.

Our Cottage refuge,

Once the family respite…

Has met a great fall.

When the landscapers

Remove summer plants and all…

Chrysanthemums awe!

–J.E.C.

Redheads turn back blonde,

Their hot summer is over…

Cooling off…is fun!

(Don’t “blondes have more fun?”)

–J.E.C.

Fat flies come indoors,

Escaping Fall’s chill…

People do so, too!

AUTUMN RAIN HAIKU

AUTUMN RAIN HAIKU

Steady falling rain

Overnight leaves have fallen

Soggy leaf carpets!

Temperatures rising,

Ice not a factor today…

More slip than a slide!

Through clouds sunlight peeks

Fetching falling foliage

More bare trees than not.

Mammogram today,

Refreshing showers before…

Checking the breastworks.

Temperature rise

Nearly November, our eyes

Mayn’t see these again!
