EPHESIANS 2: 11-24 (JUST THE FACTS MA’AM!)

EPHESIANS 2: 11-24 (JUST THE FACTS, MA’AM!)

Borders ‘tween Jew and Gentile

Have been rough for a long while…

Jews in logs

Wrote Gentiles as dogs,

Gentiles thought Jews a dung pile.

All that’s forsaken in Christ,

Who by willing sacrifice…

He followed the Law,

Jot and tittle–no flaw–

Did it once–which will suffice!

He became, for the Jews,

By the Law–Good News…

Circumcised  inside

From the Law and its pride,

Come to faith in Christ–as He your mind renews!

Gentiles drawn by faith,

Are from circumcision safe…

Outward appearance

To save lacks adherence,

Depending on works negates faith!

So now the two become one,

In Christ a new race has begun…

Abraham’s blessing

In righteousness dressing

To live and serve the Holy One.

No Jews/Gentiles remain,

All learning Christ’s mind in brains…

One in our Lord,

Peace restored,

See what God’s Spirit attains!

Is the Holy Spirit in you,

And faith in Christ our Lord too?

You can receive

His Spirit–BELIEVE!

Face life with a new attitude!

In Christ–why hate your brother?

He is the Jew–no other!

God’s people’s tight

Formation veils sight,

God’s will is to love one another.

The Good Samaritan Parable,

Showed Jews it’s not terrible…

To show their neighbor–

A Gentile–favor,

Making life a lot more bearable!

UNDER THE WIRE

UNDER THE WIRE

What do you think would transpire,
If a poet worked under the wire…
Against what he’s told
Being so bold
Refusing what his boss required?

I tell you he will have sinned,
A predicament I was in…
Under radar
Spreading poems so far,
My foolishness did me in!

Having twice been caught
Disobeying DEFINITE-FRAUGHT
WITH FIRING RISK
Having failed my task,
Of making good what I was taught.

So now I stay above board,
It’s safer than reopening sores…
Attention I hogged
Can be seen on this blog,
My intentions are safely moored!

EPHESIANS 1:17-18

EPHESIANS 1:17-18

(A poetic presentation)

Paul–and I, as well–

Pray the God’s Spirit may swell…

Your increasing sight

To do what’s right,

And to God’s great benefits tell!

Open Thou our eyes,

To Thy incomparable size…

And all Thy power

On believers shower,

Enlighten our hearts hope-wise!

Paul prayed for them every day,

That God might show them His way…

I’ll do no less

For whom God tests

Abundantly lives Christ’s way.

THE GASOLINE WON’T RUN OUT (1KINGS 17:13-15)

AND THE GASOLINE WON’T RUN OUT

(1ST KINGS 17:13-15)

Like Elijah, a widow and her son,

God’s miracles once begun…

Never run out

Til the sun comes out,

And His will has been done!

WHY JESUS’ BIRTH WAS HATED

WHY JESUS’ BIRTH WAS HATED

Jesus hated from the start,

Upset Herod’s apple cart…

Another King

Whose head must swing,

By executioner’s art!

Escape to Egypt saved,

Jesus from the cruel, depraved…

Scriptures fulfilled

And God’s people thrilled–

Those destined to be saved.

The  ONE POINT the world thinks odd,

That Jesus was the Son of God…

Equal with His Father–

Most don’t bother

Taking serious what has earned cattle prods.

God coming as a human,

No one else believes He can…

Disciples of Christ

Believe it’s precise

That Bible and that He is the Man.

So we are hated for this,

We humble ourselves to Christ…

His only Way

Available today,

His paying for all sin through His sacrifice.

Yes, this Babe, so cute in the manger,

One day would die by God’s anger…

About all sin

Which the Father put on Him,

Christ became our resurrected Lone Ranger!

Lone Ranger with Holy spirit beside,

Who in us as God abides…

His Spirit with love

Fills us, His gloves,

Doing God’s work with no self pride’

SO LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE!

SO LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE!

Early morning and dusk,

Grey shadows, who’d trust…?

so  let your lights shine

We’ll see you fine,

Other drivers won’t be brusque!

It works in spiritual matters,

Lest one risk soul splatters…

Declare  Christ,

Be recognized

Cause you soul and others do matter.

Many Christians get by

Without looking straight in the eye…

Many play

At “faith” today,

Ognoring God’s harder commands!

Jeshua came to us  a child,

Jesus, helpless and mild….

Being God yet human

At his Father’s command,

Doesn’t that drive your heart wild????

SUNDAY DINNER

SUNDAY DINNER

Sundy dinner–after church–

Our church and theirs…

Mom and Dad would

Wholesome goodness prepare.

Mom would help Dad with services

For patients on the hill…

My brother and I walked down

To the Methodist Church by our parents’ will.

Sunday School then the service,

Early service sometimes as well….

Four years apart were we brothers,

Each with experiences, do tell.

We’d walk back “up the mountain”

Or ride our bikes (or try)…

Depending on which route was taken,

We’d  get back for dinner and pie!

THE BELIEVING CRIPPLE

THE BELIEVING CRIPPLE

( Genesis 3: 8; Isaiah 40: 28-31;  Revelation 21: 2-8; Revelation 22:1-5)

Verily he longs the Day

When faith will  be sight…**

And at that goal so far away,

He will walk aright!

Mounting up with eagles’ wings

Walking hand-in-hand…

In a Garden’s misty spring

To with his Savior stand.

No more cane or wound packing

In New Jerusalem…

Leaves for the nations– not one lacking

Time alone with Him.

With all speed we’d respond

But life gets in the way…

Here is where we must draw on

God’s strength until that Day!

–Jonathan Caswell

** faith will be sight…2nd Corinthians 5:7

TEST AND APPROVE

TEST AND APPROVE

(The Book of Paul’s Letter to the Romans, Chapter 12: verse 2)

Test and approve God’s will

By learning what it is (better still)…

Renew your mind

With Bible study (Christ’s mind),

God’s good and pleasing, perfect, merciful will!

–Jonathan Caswell

MORE THAN A MERMAID

MORE THAN A MERMAID

(WARNING—ADULT MATERIAL)

As King David had Abishag,*

He wants a warm sleeping bag…

Some young beauty

For personal duty,

Who won’t leave him holding the bag!

He claims that he’ll be good,

Being unable for wood…

Being able to touch

Would mean so much,

Both ways be it understood.

He’s long past suitable age

To have desires uncaged…

His late night scheme

Is but a dream

Which no one will be willingly engaged!

–Jonathan Caswell

*Abishag…a beautiful young woman selected to provide personal care to the aging King David and to keep him warm at night,  Reportedly, he and she were not intimate with each other.  1st Kings 1:1-4.
