A TOAST TO FRIENDS PRESENT AND MISSING…AT CHRISTMAS TIME!

People we miss and love,

Missing or taken above…

Oh how we miss

Their joy or hiss,

Their gentle comments or rough!

Among them is Esther Ling,

She was in the lesbian thing…

Opposite were we

But she was a Mommy,

Ran to her when figuratively I needed mothering!

Numerous friends I had in school,

Have slipped or drove away (I’m the fool)…

Some I drove away

Or ignored to this day,

Elementary through college kept only two

Bloggers–many follow some not–

Never sure of how many give you thought…

Over a thousand mine

To whom I give little time,

Just a handful  of their blogs I’ve sought!

Surrounded by my family we are,

Been slow to contact any (my par)…

Younger ones I don’t know

As familiar ones go,

What can I do, having delayed thus far?

Does any of this make sense,

Is loss of your friends as immense…

I’m sure it is–

Friends we miss,

We remember  our friends in the past tense!

TRAPPIST FOODS

When J. J. NISSEN folded,

My image of a bakery molded…

Its replacement too big

So I had to dig,

To see what research “beholded”.

My past is in two places–

It one ever traces–

The lines of “me”

Diligently

For personal data chases!

Massachusetts, New York State,

My two major windows of fate…

Born here

But raised over there,

Memories in both are great.

One of my faves was Monks Bread,

A Trappist Monastery did…

And still does

The bread funds their cause,

Producing jams, jellies, plus all kinds of bread!

A model flat against the wall,

Leaves hardly space at all…

Have to use what I have

Of plastic walls saved,

Modeling a bakery et. al.

So I thought of TRAPPIST FOODS,

A catch-all title to use…

Producing bread

And conserves, I said,

Switching different train cars is a ball!

Specifically, flour and fruit,

Corn syrup and sugar to boot…

Isn’t enough?

They brand other stuff,

The question of a brewery—moot.

MONKS BREAD  from Western New York,

From that Trappist Abbey of course…

A college friend

Heading toward that end,

Found a wife and went in another!

HE COULD BE SHOT…!

The Poet could be shot,

Will be, likely as not…

Suggesting bras

Have their flaws,

For the well-endowed are healthy and hot!

Those “bouncing” videos

Combined with torn muscle throes…

Unless contained

Could cause real pain,

Suff’ring of which somebody knows.

Foreigners complain that we,

Over-emphasize  effacey…

Of the bra

For every flaw,

It shapes “them” daintily.

“Lift and separate”…*

Room to breathe is great,

Constricting–yes–

But look at the “bless”,

With others you comiserate!

–Jonathan Caswell

*A motto of PLAYTEX bras, if I remember!

HE LOVES ODDBALL TRAINS!

When buying trains for his collection,

He aimed in certain directions…

He took great pains

Finding oddball trains,

Delighting him in their inspection!

A little like him they are,

Interesting shapes and parts…

Characters like him

Respond to whim,

An oddball becomes his star!

The ALCO RSD-four or five,

Worked good for heavy-hauling drive…

Six wheels each truck

Earned more than good luck,

They kept tonnage going, climb or dive!

This particular unit he doesn’t have,

There ARE LIMITS to what one can grab…

But pictures show

Why that railroad would go,

With an oddball–extra traction, rails to grab!

That high-looking “stick” so grand,

Is an extra-high fill for traction sand…

Blown on the rails,

Better traction it avails,

One of the reasons they survived in Iron Ore land!

A LONG WALK’S REWARD

At work there’s an extra-long hallway,

Some walk it several times a day…

For coffee I go

The whole way though,

My cane helping all the way!

Espresso from the machine is weak,

Drink a “turbo shot”* I’ll hardly speak…

Machine espressos pour

At least four,

Any more, I’d be up for a week!

Two turbos* in coffee iced,

At  the drive-through are so nice…

“Dunkin Donuts” coffee

Is stronger (whoo-wee!),

“Turbo” taste is strong over ice!

Still long walks do me good,

Multiple trips when I could…

One evening, oh my!

The machine was dry,

But for hot chocolate, which would!

–Jonathan Caswell

*Turbo shots are a particular coffee additive available at DUNKIN DONUT shops.

!

ANYBODY LISTENING?

A tartan pencil skirt,

Is any out there alert…

Nice to see

Fashionably,

I remember a teacher so girt.

While strict, she had her charm,

Frequent knits to stay warm…

Knee-length hems

I considered gems,

A high-pitched voice when in alarm!

For a Junior High School boy,

Her outfits were sources of joy…

Modest, severe,

But oh what a year,

With some imagination…oh boy!

ESTHER LING

His friends know that he does,

For things that “was”…

Esther Ling

Was the real thing,

Committed to her cause.

Opposite from me,

But blogged in sincerity…

Her rainbow flag

A part of her bag,

We were able to be friendly.

Visits back and forth,

Of a poetic sort…

Her chosen art great

Poetry mates,

In two languages by choice!

I’ll miss her Shabbat posts,

For her father’s attending ghost…

Few others can

Replace the man

Who loved her and was close.

Esther, come back to us,

If it’s not too much fuss….

“Hortus closus”

One supposes,

Will be honored for its  human thrust!

MODEL TRAIN MYSTERY*

*(OR IS THE POET JUST BEING LAZY…?)

He trimmed the base of E.H.,

To fit ’round  his un-built T.T…..

Using long-radius T.O.s

So steamers will run comfortably’.

Washington Mills Abrasive

Won’t fit on a switch back spur…

He’ll have to trim a L-H. T.O.

If he wants it to fit, as it were!

A simplified spur to the bakery

Allows a four-car capacity…

No room for corn syrup tank cars,

Would a diverging spur that guarantee?

The bridge over troubled waters—

The waters are on a slant–

Can he build a dam to prove he can

Reconfigure its cant?

The mills he wants to represent:

Stone, wood and brick…

Most will be pictured on back walls,

His illusion…will it stick?

He’s thought of a way to represent

A shed for both coal and salt…

The end of a power plant portrayed

Steam pipes carry power aloft!

All of this on a tiny layout

In proportion to his dreams…

With sleight of hand illusion abounds

For N scale layout schemes.

–Jonathan Caswell

*Mystery solved!  E.H. = Engine House; T.T.= (a railroad) Turn Table…for turning locomotive around;  T.O.= Turn-Out track…to switch the train to another set of rails;  L-H. = Left-Hand Turnout…track diverges to the left for a straight set of rails.  “Cant” = laying on an angle—not level.  “N scale” = models that are 1/160-th of full size.

JESUS WEEPS.

JESUS WEEPS…!

(An opinion piece)

For all the children eaten,

For all His people beaten…

At least they’ll see

Eternity

Away from life so fleeting.

Those who sit by,

Should hear the tortured cry…

Of a god and his raiders,

Hateful invaders,

Who make victims want to die!

“Progressives” who don’t care a whit,

Yawn saying “get on with it”…

So we can win

Not looking at sin,

“That doesn’t bother us one bit.”

They call themselves upright,

But that won’t wash tonight…

Jesus weeps

While a ruler keeps

His vacation schedule tight.

–Jonathan Caswell

(An opinion piece—of the Poet and those who truly care for others—photo ops. not withstanding!)

HE’S SWEET ON SOMEONE

HE’S SWEET ON SOMEONE

His is emotionally

Attached to someone he sees…

Willingness per view

Is nothing new,

For years, near-automatically!

He doesn’t dare name names,

To much risk that doing so shames….

Him and /or her

Better, as it were,

Keep on with his excuses lame.

In honest reality,

He’s sweet on nearly all he sees…

That are of a mind

Both open and kind,

A give-and-take mentality.

Certain ones do catch his eye,

Reveal…he won’t even try…

Suffice to say

Some blow him away,

But he’d be lost without his “Di.”

(His wife’s nickname)
