HONKIE HAIKU

HONKIE HAIKU

(i’S A WHITE FOLK!)

His poor heart is crushed

She doesn’t say much when rushed….

His chances are mush!

–J.E.C. (Author initials to separate haiku)

“SLINGING SLANG”

Hispanic…gringo,

Nipponese…round eyes,

On the streets…HEY, YOU!

CREATIVE COMBINATIONS (FROM A DREAM?)

CREATIVE COMBINATIONS

(From A dream?)

One against three or two,

How does one know what to do…

A fevered pitch

Drops a stitch,

One less working–boo-hoo!

Several combine as one,

Knowing by heart what’s done…

Sounds like a breeze,

Becomes a tight squeeze

When the word race is won.

Not sure what to do?

Will set things up for you!

Summon a meme,

Float that trireme*

Just when you’re feeling blue!

–Jonathan Caswell

* A trireme…afloat!

CRANKY SUPPER

CRANKY SUPPER

They said it was for more space,

Where we are placed…

Out on the edge,

Near the ledge,

With just each other to face.

Two cliques were kept intact,

Those tables loudly yacked…

Lulls of wind

We couldn’t break in,

Although one or two we’d attract.

The food was fine at least,

The salad went too fast (a beast!)…

Lasagna seconds

Offered reckons

Even for the cranky a feast!

–Jonathan Caswell
