STRANGER THINGS…

Stranger outcomes happen,

When opportunity’s tapping,

Wanting in

And you begin

Writing ideas you’re trapping!

He’s written ’bout Christ and trains–

Weather seems worth one’s pains….

Fashion poems are new

As something to do,

And the challenge takes working brains!

I’d say it is channeling energy,

Most of which has left me….

Shapes and sizes

And stylish surmises,

Still need a bard’s entr├ęe.

“An eye for the women.” one said,

Focusing on their clothes instead..

“Clothes make the man”

And women, and can

Leave little more to be said!

YET–a poet describes,

Details that emanate vibes…

Along a track

That likes feedback,

Both positive and wise!

HAIKU FOR ECOSYSTEMS

HAIKU FOR ECOSYSTEMS

Fancy the peepers

Leap-frogging in vernal pools

Short life, sweet singing!

–J.E.C.

Awful garbage left

For a Cause folks are bereft

Of love for themselves!

–J.E.C.

Fine people are we,

Who force others to comply

Practice we ignore!

–J.E.C.

Behold birds singing

Focussed on their nest building,

Preparing futures!

–Jonathan C.

Lions, tigers, bears

Don’t put on arrogant airs

They don’t play at God.

–Jonathan Caswell

Salamanders’ moon

Will you help them cross the road?

Salamander soup?

–J. E. Caswell

What is mankind worth?

Just the top of a food chain?

Love humankind first!

FUR-BRAINED FELINES

FUR-BRAINED FELINES

You Tube compilations

Of cat concentrations…

Mirrors and jumps

And into bath dumps,

Expose tintinnabulations!

END-OF-DAY HAIKU

END-OF-DAY HAIKU

Forecast warm, sunny,

Workplace: energized hub-bub…

Hallways empty fast!

TOPS UNCOVERED

TOPS UNCOVERED

Snow mountains cut to size

Down before our eyes…

A skillful backhoe

Does wonders in snow,

Excavation before a bush dies!

SWEET SCENE

SWEET SCENE

Confectioner’s sugary frost,

Trees and bushes glossed…

Roads are wet–

No freezing yet–

A weather change these delights cost.

HERBAL SIDE EFFECTS

HERBAL SIDE EFFECTS

Bilateral symmetries,

Typical to our species…

Imperfections spoil

Despite our toil,

Finding supplements that please.

Eager gentian root suitors

Tend to grow their own hooters

Like some meds.

That may turn heads

Prompting derisive hooters!

BARK BEETLES

BARK BEETLES

Openness is a good thing,

In corporate dealings to swing…

Asian long-horn beetles

Use for toothpicks, needles,

The world is filled with chewing.

They cut down all the trees,

Pine, hemlock, all these…

The landscape’s denuded

Opened up is the view, it

Looks better, but we’ll feel every breeze!

OCTOBER HAIKU

OCTOBER HAIKU

Favorite season,

Colors from life on display…

Hidden until now.

Birth and death at once,

Mine and that of my Mother…

Sorrow leaves fall down!

Orange and green, both,

Barrenness not yet in view…

Hopeful transitions!

October people

Balancing light and darkness…

Creating wonder!

SUNLIT TREE TUNNEL

SUNLIT TREE TUNNEL

Driving through a tunnel

Speckled in sunlight,

Country road a-winding through the trees…

Downshift on the curves

Slowing where they’re tight,

Going back through pleasant memories!

Been this road a lifetime

Growing over years,

As the neighborhood itself has changed…

Cow ponds turn to driveways

And fields to subdivisions,

All things time has subtly arranged.

Early autumn beauty

Timelessly  flows

As passing cars swirl aside┬ádead leaves…

Going to Aunt Ida’s

Every traveler knows,

For our Uncle Andy she still grieves.

It’s been months

Since this road

Has felt these auto tires…

Silence and

 No word from her,

Had she expired?

Not knowing

Prompted a call,

A promise for a visit…

After church

Brought her

My large print book exquisite.

Two out  of three

Of her boys,

Sitting at the table…

Seemed so natural

To walk in,

Commenting as able.

Stayed a while

For a cuppa,

She commenced her reading…

Had to get back

Home to my wife

And lunch she was needing!
