DOCTOR SAYS…

DOCTOR SAYS…

Doc said left to open air,

The wound would dry and repair…

Soaking does well

To sweeten the smell,

For shoes–soon a regular pair!

AH…THOSE MEMORIES!

AH..THOSE MEMORIES!

Reminded of a time when

He fell for a girl back then…

Suddenly excited

Over lust unrequited,

Until buried again.

COUNTING DOWN

COUNTING DOWN

Counting down to the moment

Of ultimate ecstasy foment…

We stay awake

For children’s’ sake,

Bearing with credit card torment.

Meaning slips year by year,

The older ways are more clear…

Yearly reminders

No commercial blinders,

Repetitious–but our conscience clears.

Come now to Bethlehem,

Marvel at the Babe again…

For joy running deep

While the Child’s sleep

Calms us to thank God for Him.

A MAN’S POINT OF VIEW–CONVALESCING

A MAN’S POINT OF VIEW–CONVALESCING

(Adult Topic)

Older man gazing

On fields once grazing…

Young woman’s form

Makes him forlorn,

But it he’s silently praising.

Nursing re-wraps his foot

Twice a day–healing is good…

Young and lean

Nurses beam

As they professionally would.

All women he admires,

Nurses especially inspire…

Wonders uncapped

For this body he’s wrapped

In, with which his age conspires!

A LIVE-IN CHAPERONE

A LIVE-IN CHAPERONE

With nursing coming twice a day,

He’s watched as to what he might say…

When flirting he tries

To avoid his wife’s eyes,

Being mindful of the price he will pay!

HOLIDAY HAIKU

HOLIDAY HAIKU

Temperature jumps,

“Cold season” drips and sneezes…

Economic boosts!

Thanksgiving over,

Turkey soup with lots of fat…

Should have known better!

Black Friday turned week,

Jingle makers sing their songs…

Santa’s tandom sleigh!

Sun shines on our tree,

Ads run for all charities…

God’s Gift…is coming!

–Jonathan Caswell

IT’S HER CALL!

IT’S HER CALL!

I’m laid up–she does the shopping–

Variety is not stopping…

I asked for slices

But her own devices

Got shredded cheese for soup topping!

OCTOBER HAIKU

OCTOBER HAIKU

Favorite season,

Colors from life on display…

Hidden until now.

Birth and death at once,

Mine and that of my Mother…

Sorrow leaves fall down!

Orange and green, both,

Barrenness not yet in view…

Hopeful transitions!

October people

Balancing light and darkness…

Creating wonder!

BETHANY

BETHANY

The one place where our Lord

Was never rejected or ignored…

Was in Bethany

Where Martha’s Mary

Sat at His feet and adored.

The place where Lazarus died,

Four days in the tomb to reside…

With Jesus’ “Come forth,”

The burial course

Was reversed–Lazarus came out alive!

When Mary anointed with nard

Her Saviour, Judas took it hard…

He wanted to keep

That revenue creep

Into his own debit card.

Welcomed in more than one place,

Our Lord here never faced…

Being thrust in the cold

As Scripture foretold,

His loved ones here gave Him space.

When in His final week,

After time in the Temple He’d seek…

Bethany’s calm

Until the next dawn,

Before He went up the creek.

OLFACTORY EFFLUENT

OLFACTORY EFFLUENT

I remember in high school

Taking a short field trip…

To the edge of town

To see sewage treatment.

Most of the tanks were uncovered

And from the first smell…

Some of my classmates shuddered

And didn’t feel so well.

Effluent from our city,

Like that of the towns around me…

Has hardly the best of bouquets

And often looks unsightly!

But the Upper Blackstone River

Treatment Plant I drive past…

On the way home from work time,

Has a less offensive smell cast.

It might be from the de-watered

Sludge piled up afterwards…

Next door, a convenient landfill

Takes care of former turds.

The water, once treated, is released

Back into the mighty Blackstone…

Supposedly clean for drinking,

But we use a well at home.
