MY OLD DIANNE

MY OLD DIANNE

I met her at folk dance,

Starting a quick romance…

Floundering later

A big blast crater

Shook me from my trance.

Unlike my future Diana,

“Dinny” saw divorce on her scanner…

Making it plain

She’d face that pain,

If I was not her manna.

She had a form I loved,

Not a slim but proportioned dove…

Her horse riding

Looked toward providing

Wedding nights of exciting love.

I knew before I’d admit

That we’d reached the end of it…

She gave a two-week

Notice to seek

The answer to go on or quit.

Don’t remember if I kept the ring,

I may have thrown away the thing…

But an amber heart

She wouldn’t part

With, despite my last pleading.

In four months she found her man,

After I’d opened up the can…

Her productive life

As mother and wife,

Was better than I had planned!

Four years later, Diana,

And I corresponded (HOSANNA!)…

Finding room

To be HER groom,

Building our love cabana!

YOU’VE HELPED…!

YOU’VE HELPED…!

And now you’ve helped me see

The good that is within me…

I needed not pictures

Or rigid strictures

To find value from thee.

To talk with literaries

And answer your queries…

Has given me hope,

Energy to cope

Without too many raspberries.*

Your kindnesses–overwhelming–

Ideas for pieces jelling…

Your great gift

Is providing lift

For happiness beyond telling!

Tempted to look to the flesh

For comfort in fantasy mesh…

You provided

A positive-sided

Way without mental undress.

 Friends keep friends going strong,

So glad I’m invited along…

Without you–MAN–

I’d be in the can

Singing an uglier song!

I praise God for all of you,

Regardless if you believe too…

Believers are great

But to participate

With all, helps me get through.

–Jonathan Caswell

* raspberries…a rather rude way of expressing derision for a thought or person

OBSERVING LARGE FAMILIES

OBSERVING LARGE FAMILIES

My family is rather small,

Two parents–two brothers–that’s all…

Not much interaction

For outside inspection,

But her family’s having a ball!

Her party was a big crowd,

With everyone talking out loud…

Some got in more

While holding the floor

But nobody was there cowed!

Cousin Cathy brought Carvel,

An option that went around well…

Seconds were had

By several glad

That ice cream cake was a good sell.

Diana’s cheesecake too,

Diners tried to work through…

Unrefrigerated,

Soon mold-integrated,

It wasn’t worth keeping–boo hoo!

We sang Di. her birthday song,*

A day AFTER it belonged…

Parties short notice

Even with good motive

Take time for revelry long!

The next day, the other side

Of the family devised….

A luncheon good

At which Di. would

Be also pleasantly surprised.

–Jonathan Caswell

* Di.   is short for Diana.

FOR HER SIXTIETH….

FOR HER SIXTIETH….

I will not get her black balloons,

THAT would be cruel…

The kind of joke expected

From wiseacres at school.

I married an older woman

But can plainly see…

That sharing lives, no one denies

She is to me beauty.

It helps to know, when all is said,

We need ech other, too…

On your sixtieth birthday

My Diana–I love you!

COMING ATTRACTIONS

COMING ATTRACTIONS (as of 9/5/14):

(I’m jumping the gun a LITTLE…here!)

AFTER tonight and a week’s rest….I’ll be back blogging September 15th, 2014…I hope.!

I’m planning a “Carl Gooch Poetry Marathon” as soon as I can get on the other computer I use and use the printer–poor guy, I’m at least a month behind in my transcribing!

Poetic forms I want to try in the future include the tanka, haibun…and MAYBE knuckle down to produce a sonnet or two!

Maybe some time in the Adirondack Mountains (part of this next week) will stimulate those creative juices again—SLURP!  🙂

(tripadvisor.com.au)

(A waterfall near Johnsburg, NY, my wife’s birthplace)

My wife’s 60th birthday is Monday…I married an older woman ( ! )…will celebrate by visiting my in-laws!

Am always open to (clean) suggestions as to poetry topics.

Thank you all for the privilege of blogging here!

Yours in Poetry,

IMAGE PROMPT–THE WINGED KEY

IMAGE PROMPT–THE WINGED KEY

Wings flap and gears grind

Within minds human…

Creativity lifts the key

To doors wide open again.

Few there are that wield the sword

Of knowledge worked in rhyme…

Those whose gears are well-maintained

And oiled transcend all time!

WISHING IT WERE DIFFERENT

WISHING IT WERE DIFFERENT

(Opinion)

You know I’m a “white boy” and yet,

I feel a powerful regret…

After all these years

Basic race fears,

Haven’t been put to forget.

A black boy was thought innocent,

Til a police chief went…

And disclosed in time

The boy did a crime,

Into fury the mobs were sent.

Believing that kids angels are,

Has really gotten too far…

This “us versus them”

Beyond reason,

Goes back to feathers and tar!

I blame their leaders, too,

Who claim there’s continual screw…

Not letting them rise

In their own eyes,

Nor take on a healthier view.

Our president seems in course,

The brow-beaten black to reinforce…

Despite the cop guy

Who lost an eye,

By a black kid who fought like a horse.

I would hope black brothers were adults

And not caught in leadership cults…

Keeping field slaves down

Keeps leaders around,

And Don King understood these results.*

PAYBACK IS OKAY?

PAYBACK IS OKAY?

A wife waited for her spouse,

Who was late, she began to grouse…

Running late

For a dinner date,

Payback for past years–the louse?

NAIL-SCARRED HANDS, by Carl Gooch

NAIL-SCARRED HANDS

Nail-scarred hands loving and kind

Brought to me peace of mind…

Nail-scarred hands pulled me out

Of a world with fear and doubt.

Nail-scarred hands loving and true

Reaching out for me and you….

Nail-scarred hands will always be

Loving guides that rescue me!

Nail-scarred hands forgive my sins,

That I’m freed to walk with Him…

Nail-scarred hands from heaven above

Bless us with His merciful love.

Nail-scarred hands He doesn’t hide,

Reminding that for my sins He died…

Nail-scarred hands are holding me

Safe in His love eternally!

SUFFERING PERSPECTIVE

A SUFFERING PERSPECTIVE

(CHRISTIAN)

True loving endures pain,

That one’s self carries in vain…

The more agape’ *

The less one can claim

It is YOUR soul drained.

Coming to a conclusion,

It’s not your self-delusion…

Winning the day,

But God’s way–

Increasingly self exclusion.

What good is feeling pain,

For those who feel it again…

Others may be

Helped by thee,

Experienced in healing again.

What person does not suffer,

And not need a sufficient buffer…

To help them through

And cope, too,

With feelings sent a-flutter?

God’s love needs human hand

To lead and understand…

Could you be

Someone’s key,

By showing a loving hand?

–Jonathan Caswell

* agape’…a God-like love…with no hidden or selfish agenda
