WHAT GOES WITH MOSQUITOES?

WHAT GOES WITH MOSQUITOES?

Those doggone, pesky mosquitoes,

Do they fit environmental credoes…

Malaria comes

Because of those bums,

The bloodsuckers drill through a Speedo!

On the tundra, fifty percent,

Of life–without mosquitoes–will have went…

They make easy food

With a good attitude,

Of major consequence.

Reindeer migration routes

Affected by mosquito soups…

Avoiding the buzz

Important because

Places need time to recoup.

Mosquitoes clean dirty water

Then feed fish and bugs as they oughter…

Many birds eat them too,

And “swallow” a few*

On the wing near the surface of water.

Females go after the blood,

To nourish their eggs in the flood…

Males in the sector

Survive on nectar,

For which pollination is good.

* swallows…are one of the several bird types that eat mosquitoes “on the fly”–while flying.

CORPORATE SIGNS OF WINTER

CORPORATE SIGNS OF WINTER

One knows when all flowers are gone,

Snow soon may cover the lawn…

Canopy sideboards

Cover the walk toward

Employee entrances quick-drawn.

An entrance heating blower

Assaults ears with its roar…

As weather turns cool

The fashionable coo,

At new stuff they take from the drawer.

Most geese are flying in vees,

And different birds tweet in trees…

Birdseed supplies

Look for winter skies,

And the pond fountain’s ready to leave.

EARLY MONDAY MORNING

EARLY MONDAY MORNING

I can’t sleep anymore,

The birdies wake up by four…

I hit the bathroom

And in the gloom

Decide to write some more.

I write by word processing,

My handwriting’s really messy…

Sometimes I can’t catch

My own chicken scratch,

I’ll finish before I’m dressing.

I’ll transcribe it later in the day,

No Internet connection this way…

Could burn a C.D.

But that wouldn’t help me,

The rewrite allows editing inspections!

Now I’ve cleared my head

Of verses, it’s back to bed…

I sleep until noon

More time is a boon

To get done the chores that I dread.

WHAT BIRD IS IT????

WHAT BIRD IS IT???

We’ve got a bit of a problem

Identifying a sound…

Coming from neighboring swampland,

From birds or raccoons around?

Its loud, high-pitched “chittering”

From several places will call….

The creatures that are calling

Don’t seem to be moving at all.

It could even be amphibian

In nature making the sound…

If only we had a naturalist near,

To help out by being around.
