THE BLACK ICE SURPRISE!

Miss Kulbacka came in,

A cleaner who talked up a din…

Wasn’t nice

To find black ice,

And white on the grassy green.

BLACK ICE FOR FREE !

( historyimages.com )

BLACK ICE FOR FREE !

It’s as warm as warm could be,

And overnight, black ice for free…

Sugaring weather,*

Bringing together

Sweetness for you and me !

–Jonathan Caswell

* sugaring weather…times in the Spring when cold nights and warm days stimulate tree sap in maple and¬†birch trees to circulate in the tree—collected sap is boiled down to make sweet syrups and candy,

“HEINZ-57” WEATHER

“HEINZ-57” WEATHER

Don’t want to complain my friends,

But New England weather tends…

To often be

Full of variety,

Whatever the overcast sends.

This morning we started with rain,

Snow flakes and sleet once again…

Often all three

In waves like the sea,

The morning a dreary refrain.

It stopped in the afternoon,

The sunlight made its way out soon…

Our roads will have dried

By my midnight ride,

Any black ice well-lit by the moon!

BLACK ICE BOBBY (A SILLY LIMERICK)

BLACK ICE BOBBY

(A SILLY LIMERICK-STYLE POEM)

Did you hear about “Black-Ice” Bobby?

His truck tires were big and knobby…

Hit black ice with his girl,

The truck took a whirl

And no one could find the bodies!

Remember that “Black-Ice” Bobby?

For safer roadways he did lobby…

But hitting black ice

Wasn’t so nice,

Drive too fast and your record’s shoddy!

–Jonathan Caswell
