BAKED BEANS BY COMMITTEE

BAKED BEANS BY COMMITTEE

Preparing for some good baked beans

I gathered materials…

Bought us lots of bacon

And the standard procedurals.

Not wanting lots of sugar

That puts me in a spin….

I bought sugar-free syrup

With dark brown sugar in.

somehow I thought one pound was weak,

Insisted we cook up two…

She found a nine-by-twelve inch pan

And said it’ll have to do!

I THOUGHT…the bacon would

Be cooked in with the beans…

SHE DECIDED to cook it separate

To lessen fat it seems!

I should have done a little pot

With bacon unsupervised…

But I assumed–perhaps too much–

And was pleasantly surprised!

EVER SUGAR-FREE?

EVER SUGAR-FREE?

Where there’s a market and means,

For sugar-free B & M Baked Beans…

Just how would they taste–

Like library paste–

The market would seem rather lean!

Folks like maple and brown sugar,

To sweeten another way is vulgar…

The label might say

“We took those all away”,

Replaced with artificial vigor.

For real bacon, use bacon bits,

That soy product giving fits…

With no real taste

Substitution is a waste–

That should be the end of it!

* B & M Baked Beans…a product still made in New England ( ? )…a traditional favorite meal item for Saturday nights!

EXPORTING DREAMS—GINGER CREAMS

EXPORTING DREAMS—GINGER CREAMS

Came home from Upstate New York,

With much that would fill a fork…

Including home-made

Cookies we parade,

To eat them all would be dork!

Molasses and brown sugar full,

Exerts an awfully strong pull…

On two diabetics

And their diuretics,

Their self-control’s covered by wool.

So export those cookies ‘real quick’

Before these folks get sick….

Of eating this cooking

So sweet and good-looking,

Making diets difficult to stick!
