FORSYTHIA PHALANXES

FORSYTHIA PHALANXES

Knobby stems start to sprout,

But not with green leaves….

Rather with yellow flowers shout:

Welcome back, you bees!

Yellow flowing over walls,

Trellises like waterfalls…

Exploding the brown of spring

Till flowers and grass appear!

Some are bushes strictly trimmed,

Others growing pale and slim…

Forsythia roams around

Wherever it can grow!

Thankful we, for instant light,

That promises a “real good” fight…

Vanquishing the doldrums here

By many yellow sprouts!

POISON IVY…VARIETY PACKED!

POISON IVY…VARIETY PACKED!

Consider the poison ivy plant

You often find its vines…

Stretching out upon the lawn,

Growing in straight lines.

That tiny vine, how does it grow,

To take over the lawn…

Getting rid of the stuff

Requires super-human brawn!

Every little snippet becomes

A full-grown plant…

If any touches skin,

You’ll itch until you rant.

It waves big red and yellow leaves

In Autumn, from woody stems…

Climbing up a tree trunk

For years with twists and bends.

Burn the stuff and its smoke

Can cause the brutal itch…

Gardeners, landscapers all

Learn the poison ivy twitch!

LAST MEAL

LAST MEAL

Out of the bushes it came,

Busted, bedraggled and lame…

It fed on his bread

Two days instead,

Each day it acted the same.

The third day, nothing was eaten,

Was time to give in, it was beaten…

It went to earth

For new life to birth,

Some things, it’s not worth cheating.
