How long can I maintain,

Employment suitably framed…

If I tip over

Will it be over,

Helping a younger one trained?

More unsteady on my feet,

Balance loss makes it complete…

I do fear

The danger here,

Losing Security’s seat.

Parkinson’s is confirmed,

Slowly it will have wormed…

With no escape

By the nape,

With severance pay the last pay I’ve earned!

–Jonathan Caswell

(The author does have an early, slow-moving form of Parkinson’s It has not affected his ability to perform his job.)

(clearly…a hypothetical situation!  😀  )

Ever have one of those days

When she emits death rays…

No way escape–

Caught by the nape–

When irritation stays.

I would NEVER* complain,

But she acts insane…

She points to me

For insanity,

There’s plenty, plenty of blame!

Lost in ethereal mist,

She hands me a shopping list…

In my shirt sleeves,

Her action peeves,

But we make sure we’ve hugged and kissed.

She got ready to go,

Where are we going, “don’t know…”

No time to spare,

Take it ALL there–

“Why don’t you some good sense grow!”

Trying to put it ON ME,

Her uncertainty…

What did I do–

Not follow through–

It’s our common propensity!

She does the wash and I write,

Cooling down instead of fight…

I’ll do shopping

While she’s basket-hopping,

We should turn out all right.

* NEVER…seriously??????

They became friends for life

And then man and wife…

Compatible yes

But soon the stress

Of living brought out strife.

They held a common Faith

In which they thought was safe…

But took a while

To reconcile,

Backgrounds that would chafe.

Over the years was seen

Both could tend toward the mean…

(Telling truth is

Some times ruthless,)

And foot-dragging, when not so keen.

Complementary–oh, yes.

They work together best…

Although he was taught

Independence ought

To be possible if only she’d try!

Using Bible doesn’t always close

Out arguments as supposed…

Each has a view

With references too,

An uneasy truce imposed.

Sometimes the best means of escape,

Is a shared form on video tape…

Or else one walks

Away from the talks

Avoiding getting the other by the nape!

Not everything’s perfect just yet,

There’s a lot more growing to get…

They will remain friends

Until beyond life’s ends,

No splits are considered to regret!
