HE WASHED THEIR FEET

HE WASHED THEIR FEET

(See John 13)

After the meal Christ arose

And set aside His clothes…

Dressed as a slave

To those He’d save,

He washed their feet as He chose.

The Lord said servants above all

Invited to hear God’s call…

Obedient toward,

Receive award

For giving His service their all!

His disciples are known from above

By how each other they love…

But today

This love ran away,

More likely we’ll give them a shove.

JUST OPEN UP AND…

JUS OPEN UP AND…IT’S OBVIOUS WHO IS THE FOOL!

In PROVERBS it says a fool

Often speaks out of school…

If only their rant

Kept silent–it can’t–

Folks wouldn’t see their mad drool.

Fools just open the mouth

And opinions of them go south…*

It is confirmed

The foolish worm

Is easily caught in bird’s mouth.

Likewise, we who share

Too much ladies underwear…

“T.M.I.’

Is the fault of the guy,

Shaming the ones who care!

Much-valued is self control,

This turkey-head loses his soul…

If he doesn’t heave to

Lord, to You,

Obedience is my goal.

Salvation’s not by works

But thoughts are guided by quirks,

Holiness

Suitably expressed,

Doth not mean acting like jerks.

Saints of the Lord rejoice,

This “saint” has found God’s voice…

Saved from abyss

He’ll praise God for this,

The fool can repent by choice.

–Jonathan Caswell

* gone south…gone negative…maybe first coined by a Northerner (the fool)

HIS SPIRIT POURED OUT

HIS SPIRIT POURED OUT

Praise God for Deborah Grey,

She’d been too long away…

Her phone call

Blesses us all

So thankful for God’s display.

We hadn’t spoken for months,

My wife did write her once…

Told her my story,

To God be glory,

He uses this spiritual dunce.

Knowing the truth made her laugh

WITH ME and on my behalf…

It’s joyful knowing

No one I’m snowing

Nor subject to judgmental wrath!

We talked for nearly an hour,

A wonderful cleansing shower…

This sister close

Deliberately chose

In us to His sweet Spirit pour!

ROLE REVERSALS–NO PROBLEM!

ROLE REVERSALS–NO PROBLEM!

Caretaker of his wife, he was

Until amputation thus…

Found care of him

Under her whim,

His ego matured for the cause.

Their life in Christ was in being,

Through His love seeing…

Encouraging souls

Ultimate goals,

Whom they were was in Him succeeding.

Success not a matter of role,

But God’s encouraging the whole…

Definition by deed

It was Christ’s to succeed,

While His children with Him are clothed.

Working this through mortal frames

Is but one of Spiritual aims…

To work His will

Whether healthy or ill,

In Godly mercy and love  Christ came.

Who thus the greater be,

But Christ, Who lives in me…

We are man and wife,

Ransomed for life–

Father God as Daddy!

FORMER MORNING STAR

FORMER MORNING STAR

(Isaiah 14: 12-15)

The Devil in the Garden

Envious of God’s pardon…

Of innocent lives

And love that derives

From a Heart that is unhardened.

Jealous the Devil was

Of Adam and Eve because…

They walked with God

And thought it not odd

To do so without duds.

Satan himself had been

Considered God’s right-hand man…

But given choice

Chose to voice

Self-pride cherished within!

The Devil–albeit a snake–

Was happy the couple’s partake…

Just as he,

With prideful glee

That less-nutritious cakes.

Tempted to be wise

They did what opened their eyes…

In one breath

They chose death,

Of Spirit connection, besides.

People of faith, we face

The same from the human race…

Our downward knock

Builds up stock

Of sinners refusing grace.

Rebellion to God will happen,

You, His children they’re rapping…

The faithful cling

For Christ to bring

Salvation–God never is napping!

THEOLOGY KOOL-AID

THEOLOGY KOOL-AID

An Andrew Womack reminder:

Churches often wear blinders…

To simple grace,

Preferring to face

Works-based idols unkinder.

Most misunderstand the Law,

Considering relative flaw…

Is  able to see

Immortality,

Alas…an old pagan saw.

The Law pointed to perfection,

Beyond mere mortal conception…

That only one*

Has ever done

Fulfillment upon close inspection.

–Jonathan Caswell

* only one…that is, Jesus Christ…our substitute.

ABRAM OUT OF EGYPT

ABRAM OUT OF EGYPT

(Genesis 13)

Living in Egypt so long,

Abram grew more rich and strong…

With Sarah returned,

For whom Pharoah burned

The Lord said, it’s time–move along!

Like the coming up of springtime crocus,

The Lord said it’s time to refocus…

In again on Me

And what will be,

Get away from Egypt’s hocus-pocus.

Take care of whom you’ve got,

Including that young fellow, Lot…

The two of you crowd

The other so proud,

There isn’t a big enough spot!

You take one way, Lot the other,

Sarah will soon be a mother…

So focus on Me

And My guarantee

That you will be blessed like no other.

IN THE LISTS

IN THE LISTS

(inspired by Chapter 6 of TRANSFORMING PRAYER…by Daniel Henderson, 2011, Bethany House Publishers)

In medieval times, the lists,

Where the best jouster exists…

Knocking down in line

The rest of his kind

Until none left would resist.

Which was fine…for that day,

But limits us when time to pray…

Organization is fine

But make one inclined

To ignore what the Spirit might say!

A check list, almost by rote,

Leaves little time to devote…

To listening hard

And praying large,

For those no others will note.

Prayer should be time with God,

Not just as an afterthought flawed…*

He wants your best,

Not the leftover rest,**

Walk with Him…and be awed.
