SKIRTING THE ISSUE

SKIRTING THE ISSUE!

The young woman twirled  her skirts

Like a girl dancer flirts…

To catch an eye

Or two mid-fly,

Prompting jealous hurts.

–Jonathan Caswell

Swirling skirts catch eyes

Feminine wiles luring guys…

Or just feeling free???

–J.E.C.

Liking skirt patterns

Made of cotton or of silk,

Patterned skirts look nice:

Not all tight skirts  are welcome,

Flowing skirts billowing cool.

SANGUINE SATURDAY NIGHT

SANGUINE SATURDAY NIGHT

The sanguine watches TV with her tea,

While Melancholic writes his poetry…

They both were tired after the house party

And both dozed off a while.

Sanguine cherishes WONDER WOMAN,

On “ME-TV” Saturday she’s coming…

Melancholic may make it for STAR TREK–

“Honey, give me just a sec.”

Darkness reigns after eight o’clock,

The Poet keeps from writing crock…

Pretty soon the apartment door will lock

And they’ll both be in for the night.

WEATHERING IT

WEATHERING IT

(Tanka and haiku)

Gathering dusk drops,

Descending more blessings wet…

Forecasters said…Sure!

Winter’s snow did not endure:

At least Springtime temps. are sure!

–Jonathasn Caswell

Springtime hope opens

Blossoms color forest rees

Creation giggles!

–Jonathan Caswell

Head and tail lights on

When wipers used in the rain,

Massachusetts law…

Some cars dark in dusk

Think they’re exempt, or just won’t!

–Jonathan Caswell

Rain in camera

Shows wet on lighted pavement,

Evidence we feel.

SANCTIMONIOUS?

SACTIMONIOUS…US????

(Opinion…with humor, I hope!)

You want to see “higher than thou,”

Nonbelievers are your choice…

Trying to tell them anything

They think it obnoxious foist.

Evidence doesn’t mean a thing

Unless it’s on their terms…

If you’re not a “Carl Sagan”

They say, “Oh go eat worms!”

It’s true we are oft judgmental,

Mostly about ourselves…

Loving the love of God ain’t easy

With works religion still on  shelves.

None of us are perfect,

In short, neither are you…

If antagonism is what you expect

Then that’s the tea that will brew!

Are we really sanctimonious?

Look in the mirror and see…

If you can bring the walls down some,

You can chose to talk with me!  🙂

PESACH SHENI–A SECOND CHANCE

PESACH SHANI—A SECOND CHANCE

Pesach Shani, May third of this year,

One month after Passover’s done…

For  undetakers unavoidably stopped

From celebrating the normal one,

Certain men unavoidably detained

On journeys also apply…

To bring offering praising their God

As when the Destroyer passed by.

A TV preacher brought this all out

In the midst of financial appeal…

Applauding God’s giving Israelites a second chance

For those approaching with zeal,

Of course he makes it a second chance

For his ministry’s account…

To gain the favor of financial success

From believers who will hear him out.

I don’t think the Lord had double-dipping in mind

Having compassion on the unable…

To participate when inclined

To share a Passover table,

We know that TV is not very cheap

To keep programs on air…

I shouldn’t criticize a preacher’s desire

Taking advantage of second chances there!

PROFESSION

PROFESSION–OF HONORING

(A “me, too!” poem)

Before I knew, you were loving,

Spending yourself as you would…

Making sure others were first in line

And always championing good.

Not that I’ve even met you,

But you think me a hoot…

When I’m lonely and need a good yarn

You know I’ll give you a toot!

Wasting time wouldn’t be wasted

if you were at my sie…

If I’m actually near you

I’d point out your pure humble pride.

Since we may not meet in this lifetime,

I pray you personal success…

For if I’d not heard your writing

My own would be rather a mess!

MORNING MELODY

MORNING MELODY

Singing words of hope

Gratitude and grace abound

Morning melody

Putting God before all else

Singing praise to Him alone!

WAS IT A DREAM?

WAS IT A DREAM?

I had a dream I thin

Where all controversy

Was smoothed out and answers to find,

It was all too easy!

I had this dream last night

That faded with the dawn…

That made it seem useless to fight

Or then to carry on.

It seemed like folks had conspired

In computer parlance…

To take away distinctiveness

And leave it all to chance.

I wished I could escape

But lay there helplessly…

Abandoning principles,

Submerged by complacency.

I wished for a happy ending,

But I awoke in this state…

Will someone please take care for me

Before it is too latre?

Perhaps it was anomaly,

Perhaps this dream was a fluke…

But if I were to live this way

I’d really rather puke.

HALLOWED GROUND

HALLOWED GROUND

At Lexington and Concord

In seventeen seventy-five…

Brave men took a stand

For livelihoods to thrive.

Hard for this generation

to understand long ago…

But they’re lead by Christian pastors

Who loved their freedom so!

Those Pastors and their men of faith

Stood on solid ground….

God-given principles’ defense

In the shot heard all around!
