FAMILY TRADITIONS

AFTER CHRISTMAS

New Years afternoon

Her family’s tree taken down…

Were the birdies pleased

With their suet tree,

Or fly away with a frown?

Depending on how dry the tree,

‘Twas different with our family…

It stayed a while

In great style

At least till Epiphany!

Then we would also redo it,

festooned with globs of suet…

Don’t let the cat near,

He’ll eat it we fear,

Not bothering to chew it!

#26–THE MUSICAL “CATS” WITH ELECTRIC EELS

#26–THE MUSICAL “CATS” WITH ELECTRIC EELS!

Do you think electric eels

Have the acting prowess that appeals…

Directors are happy

With lines snappy,

But voltage is not a big deal

….but they could charge more per ticket!

NICE BEING A POET

NICE BEING A POET

It’s so nice being a poet

When   someone will care and show it…

Dog and cats now

Say “he’s MEOW!”

In various ways they bestow it!

WHY THE CASWELLS WON’T BE HAVING CATS

WHY THE CASWELLS WON’T BE HAVING CATS:

It’s CAT…not CATS…we’re allowed only one,

When in an apartment, that is how it’s done…

We’d really truly love one but makes no sense to beg

‘Cause all it would take is a scratch on a leg.

We miss our Tippie cat, Ginger and Summer

We really loved their company but now it is a bummer…

Cellulitis needs just a tiny scratch to grow

And infection so quickly leads us low.

Our diabetes is the new reality,

We should have seen it coming but alas, woe is me…

We’ll miss the kitty hugs and the warm flowing purr

Our hearts ache to experience things that were!

CATS AT PETSMART

CATS AT PETSMART

I wouldn’t have believed it true,

If I hadn’t watched You Tube…

Two ginger cats

Not having spats,

Right there in a carriage to view!

Their owner got them treats,

Canned, not ready eats….

People walked by,

Invited to try

Gently petting the beasts.

He allowed them to jump up and rest

For a while in upholstered cat nests….

Til time to go home

They returned on their own,

With some gentle coaxing at best!

WINDOW SCREENS

WINDOW SCREENS!

(Tune: “Animal Crackers in My Soup,” as sung by Shirley Temple)

White shirt fronts

Behind window screens,

Cats looking out

On burgeoning greens…

Doggies can walk

Their owners out,

Cats without leashes

Not put out.

A.C. feels good

To kitty fur,

Means less shedding

And hairy stir…

Dogs have owners

To comb out

Any snarls

In a hairy coat!

Fish and parrots

What are they,

Rarely more than

Fine display….

Cats can purr

And doggies yap,

Having a friend is

A good life capped!

FELINE FRAGRANCINGS

FELINE FRAGRANCINGS!

Half-way home I smelled “cat”

On the car…what about that…

Was kitty pinioned

Near the hot engine,

Or just territorial spat?

That is, from the time I left

To go home, I wasn’t bereft…

Of that smell

Ventilated well,

Amazing it was well-kept.

Skunks, I do declare,

Have come out to re-scent the air…

I rarely see them

Nor want to be them,

But to MEET one would be a scare!  🙂
