The cell phone we had for years,
Is obsolete it appears…
On an internet listing
That model was missing,
Will get a new one this year!

THE CELL PHONE WISH
Passing vehicles roadside,
I pray that they have relied…
Upon a cell phone
To call home
And a tow truck for which they have spied.
–
Me? I don’t have one,
When I broke down it wasn’t fun…
Other’s kindness saved
Me from circumstance braved,
I really should activate one!
–
Coming into present times
With no more phones that will take dimes…
May force me to view
A cell phone’s value,
Neglect is an avoidable crime.

BAD ELF
Oh, if he had a cell phone
For photoing secretly…
He’d get snapshots of his favorite girls,
Developed to a “T”.
–
His camera would not need a flash
‘Twould automatically adjust…
Getting best views that he would choose,
Whether face or form or bust.
–
Alas, no such camera does exist,
At least not that he’s aware…
He’ll have to trust to memory
The bodies beyond compare!

A SUDDEN DISTURBANCE
A six-year old with cell phone,
Won’t leave me alone…
He wants to talk
And this switchboard stalk,
Calling from, I assume, his home!
–
A six-year-old boy with questions,
Who won’t take subtle suggestions…
To let others through,
What can I do
When he ignores kinder directions?
–
Finally left the phone off the hook,
Speaking nicely still baited the hook…
It’s quiet for now
Until somehow,
He finds another number in the book!

THE FORGOTTEN ITEM TURNAROUND
(“Yellow Rose of Texas”)
THE Forgotten Item Turnaround
You see it every day,
Employees do “one-eighties”
Before they drive away…
They come back through the doorway
Their keys or cell to find,
‘Though sometimes they get to the car
Before it comes to mind!
–
One pesky guard once worked here
Would pester everyone,
And often make suggestions
Before targets could run…
We find it best to not advise
Before folks really need,
Embarrassment in no-wise
Helps them to succeed!
–
Oh, the employee turnaround
It doesn’t seem quite fair,
For folks with such abilities
To not remember where…
So, treat them gently like you would
Have others treating you,
Some kindness goes a long way
To help us all get through!

AFTER SANDY
New York, New Jersey, West Virginia
And many places in-between…
Folks have friends and family
That they have not yet seen.
–
We can get through by cell phone,
Nor even by land line…
We don’t have any knowledge
If they’re hurt or just fine.
–
Snow in West Virginia
And rain everywhere…
Another storm is on the way,
Will they be safe out there?
–
Everyone, while grateful
To be spared personal loss…
Remember those now without,
Paying a heavy cost.
–
We pray for those still missing,
As we search for our own…
Join those searching for lost ones
so they can find the way home.

POTENTIAL SHUTTERBUG
The man had an eye for figures
And faces that he might frame…
But women around him were wary
Because of his actions inane.
–
He always signalled so far ahead
He was coming in for the kill…
That many beauties up and fled,
Rather than submit to his thrill.
–
The guy never got a cell phone,
Nor less, a camera within…
Look out all you lovely ladies
When he finally does give in!
