A MATTER OF TIMING

A MATTER OF TIMING

(Based on the best available Bible scholarship and the author’s educated opinion.)

Maundy Thursday–today–

Tradition says Christ was betrayed…

Good Friday, the cross,

When Jesus felt lost

Til risen on Easter Sunday.

Tradition, a gentile plot,

To cut off a Jewish knot…

Tassels off a shawl

Blinding us all

How far from the truth we’ve got.

Traditional time makes no sense,

But ammunition for skeptics immense…

Evening and a morn

How Jewish time formed

From Genesis One, and hence!

Western tradition is short,

Of ignorant comport…

Anti-Semitic

Christians steeped in it,

Are making Christ’s Kingdom contort.

Sinful fascist gentile pride

Would the real truth override…

God’s people, the Jews,

Have been misused

Power struggles for souls–woe betide!

TWO ROADS..BOTH TAKEN

TWO ROADS…BOTH TAKEN

Two roads diverging,

Each going one way…

In life we don’t find these roads one time,

But each and every day.

I found a woman who looked so fine

I had to conquer her…

She was willing to give some ground

And the rest became a blur.

Engaged to be married,

With a full-time job needed on plate…

Relationship roots, or lack of, bore fruit

About which he could not debate.

She found one four months later,

While he took four years to unwind…

She happily married while she parried

The loser, who wished he were blind.

Another intersection presented

A way to get out of his funk…

He gradually found a way to come ’round,

Had to move, so he packed up his trunk.

Finding spiritual friends in the mountains,

Christians maturing like wine…

Healing proceeded however was needed

As Jesus gave him His time.

In a year or two, drawn into ministry,

Eventually convinced of the need…

To stop his striving and carnal conniving

To be from his burden set free.

And then when least expected,

An answer came out of the blue…

In indirect answer of a plea for support

He found a pen pal, too!

For she had just (he learned afterwards)

Submitted to Christ her fate….

What grew from that initial exchange,

Is, after twenty-five years, still great!!!

SPEAKING ABOUT….

….LINES IN THE SAND!!!

This weekend he understood

Drawing lines in the sand was good…

Beyond which to stop,

Be your own traffic cop

Choosing to do what Christ would.

Isolated for much of the week,

He looks forward to a peek….

At any specimen

Of living woman,

The view is his personal treat.

He sometimes daydreams

Concocting romantic schemes…

For women he’s seen,

It’s all just a dream

For which he has not the means!

He’s learned the hard way that

It depends on where he’s at…

In amongst church and friends

The daydreaming ends,

And that is the end of that.

Daydreaming done with little care,

Can end up a mental affaire…

Which Christ said clearly

Could not be,

Looking with lust over there!

The man is learning his lesson,

Standing his ground for  blessing…

Be a blessing not a curse

Or lose his God first

With women other than his, don’t be messing.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN EASTER? from Facebook

HAPPY EASTER—DO YOU BELIEVE IN EASTER?DO YOU BELIEVE IN EASTER?
Not colored eggs and treats.
But a crown of thorns on Jesus head.
Nails in His hands and feet

DO YOU BELIEVE IN EASTER?
Not Mardi Gras or ashes.
But Jesus who was crucified
And scourged with many lashes.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN EASTER?
Not Peter Cotton Tail.
But Jesus Christ Our Saviour.
Who saved our souls from hell.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN EASTER?
Not really knowing why.
Now you know the old old story.
Believe and Receive everlasting life.

HAPPY HOLY DAYS!

HAPPY HOLY DAYS!

“Happy Holy Days,

Happy Holy Days…

While the merry bells keep ringing,

Happy Holy Days to you!”**

So much of the language we’re seeing

Is stripped of original meaning…

Holiday once was holy,

A festive day solely

To celebrate spiritual cleaning.

In “X-mas” the X stood for Christ,

The tipped-over cross sufficed…

But in algebra, “x”

Stands for unknown, one suspects

Non-Christians got this in-spliced.

Western and American thought

By intellectuals is thought to be fraught…

With danger to social control,

In other places it is so

That any and all Christianity must be tossed.

True pity I really feel

For folks who reduce to “corn meal…”

Cultural richness displayed

Despite efforts made,

By fanatical pagan zeal.

**NOTE: A play on the words of Bing Crosby’s hit song, “Happy Holidays”, based on the etiology (history of words and their usage), of “holiday” coming from the original term, “holy day”.

JEHOVAH JIREH JINGLING

JEHOVAH JIREH JINGLING!

Recently wrote a Requiem,

For a dead and buried Friend…

Subsequent to that

Acted like a brat,

Sarcastic  and angry to tend…!

Today while at a doctor visit,

A glimmer of hope exquisite…

My wife was told

Of a black one year old,

“Cuddle-bug” cat needing a new home–are we’s it?

Seeing a photo of the cat,

He’s cute and furry and all that….

Delivered with all his shots

Has a neutering been already got?

Perhaps by New Year’s Day

The kitty cat can come and stay…

Sooner won’t unravel

Our desire to travel,

He rides real good…so they say.

Another blessing came to light

This afternoon from nowhere in sight…

Di. got a phone call

So that it befalls,

To fix her special floor lamp (which didn’t work) just right!

Praise God for His Bountiful Good

For His people, to be understood…

Accordingly grace

Proceeds apace,

From the sacrifice of Christ’s blood!
