The second day of the New Year,
We’re headed for “zero” I fear…
A low of nine
In the city is fine,
But out in the country, oh dear!

These low degrees in Fahrenheit,
Should not give New Englanders fright…
But we’ve had it soft
In winter too oft,
And now the temperature seems right!

Those with electric will run up the bill,
I wish we had a woodstove still…
The work was hard
Culling from a woodyard,
But it definitely kept out the chill.

Some people think fairy-folk

Are no more then country joke…

The citified

Are “open-eyed”

Or so they will have spoke.

For most, video games,

Have replaced mythical names…

For natural things

Imagined with wings,

That mortals can scarcely explain.

A sense of wonder—is it gone?

As a boring life drones on…

What is left to suspect

When all is direct(ly)

Available then we move on?

Kids grow up way too soon,

In love, in “knowledge”, in gloom…

Imagination is dulled

By facts quickly pulled,

With little interesting left to assume.
