HEARD HER COMING DOWN
I heard a clank the other day
Methodically on its way,
Down the stairs behind my desk…
I knew that she was coming.
–
Her nephew had come by of late
To get the car she’d appreciate,
To drive it which she cannot do…
Because her leg was bumming.
–
I watched her progress to descend
Encouraging a colleague and friend,
Who still has a long road ahead…
And my heart started drumming.
–
‘T were not from her exertion
Or emotional coercion,
But from professional fondness…
My caring for her challenge not numbing.
–
It has no chance to grow
This feeling within my soul,
Suffice to say I feel for her struggle…
And that, in a nutshell, is my summing.
