WARM EMBRACING–STAY WARM!

Sunny, clear and cold,

We celebrate as of old…

A warm embrace

Fingers trace

On skin patterns bold!

Hey–romantic ;love,

Being closer than in a glove…

The day we’re telling

Our heart swelling

Is for our turtle dove!

Presents and cupcakes reign,

Romantic foods by design…

Baubles and things

Give love wings,

Or at least that’s the hoped for sign!

CORPORATE FLOWER GARDENS

CORPORATE FLOWER GARDENS

At my work site in the city,

Flowers are mighty pretty….

Each designed display

A verdant bouquet,

The ways of someone witty.

Most hybrids, one can tell,

Have little or no smell…

Near the entrance are these

Nice olfactories

That entice visitors well.

Imaginative this year,

More so, these groupings appear…

Inevitable contagion–

Economic persuasion,

Of confidence for this year!

Arrangements like fireworks

With all the floral perks…

Declare the command,

Come join the band–

Our products are in upward spurts.

WARM WEATHER HAIKU

WARM WEATHER HAIKU

Air conditioners

Softly flowing night time wind…

Cool enough, without.

Parking in the shade,

Handicapped zone is filled up…

Worth the extra walk.

Wild families grow,

No fishercats seen this year…

The woods hide many lives.

Flowers open wide,

Bees work among the petals…

Aroma lures all.

THE CARING BOSS

THE CARING BOSS

A Probe worker gave us flowers

With candy in a glass vase that towered…

On-and-off lights

To show she delights

In Security guys o’er the hours.

Our boss, the caring guy,

Didn’t want sugar levels sky-high…

So gave the whole thing away

The very next day,

The only thing (?) that was fair.

FLOWERS TOWERING HIGHER

FLOWERS TOWERING HIGHER

Daffodils and iris wink

At dandelions who think…

They were first in fallow

Ground too shallow

On the edges of a former ice rink.

Flowers reach for the sun,

Phototropism’s how it’s done…

Stems bend the way

To catch full sun’s rays,

Turn the pot to straighten them some.

Dandelions are good for wine,

And greens eaten fresh are fine…

But wait too long

And the smell is strong

Of other “seasoning” in time!

Dandelions growing early in the year

Reach for the sky when stems appear…

But cut down frequently

The stems grow short to be,

To produce seed parachutes in the clear.

Magnolia trees blossom North and South,

In the North before the awakened cotton mouth*…

That fragrance in the breeze

May cause someone to sneeze,

But is enjoyed by me and my spouse!

* cotton mouth….a poisonous water snake.

APRIL HAIKU

APRIL HAIKU

Frost hides in shadow,

Cold sunshine sublimes black ice…

Lilies stick out tongues!

Motorcycles parked,

Club-ride snakes long–through downtown–

Traffic:  parade rest!

Passover chicken,

Roasted lambs in short supply…

No time for lamb care.

Easter Bunny’s eggs,

Hung on trees seasonally…

Plastic stocks gain ground.

Bird migrations start,

Robins parse out snowy lawns…

Geese and ducks’ pit stop.

Peeper frogs’ fast love,

Amphibians unfreezing…

Deer savor new shoots!

New shoes and dresses,

Everyone radiates life…

Springtime dress in flowers!

A LITTLE FLORAL MAGIC

A LITTLE FLORAL MAGIC

A little floral magic

Is going on right now…

Green stalks producing flowers

Grow up, I don’t know how;

They are not from a hothouse

But temperatures will climb,

All seem to come up by themselves

And have–in quick-step time!

It really is no magic–

Just God’s creation plan–

As weather gets warmer

The plants hear the command…

To start the growing season

As winter is finally gone,

The answer to our prayer shoots forth

To beautify the lawn!
