THE LO-O-O-O-O-ONE GREAT BLUE HERON!

THE LO-O-O-O-O-ONE  GREAT   HERON!

On this darkening November day,

A Great Blue Heron assayed…

To fly overhead

A young driver said,

Across his lane of a rain-soaked highway.

He thought the bird would have flown

South before snow fall had grown…

His migratory

Knowledge of the story

Was rather poorly known!

Perhaps, like other types

Of migratory birds, he’d no gripes…

With staying around

And fish to be found,

So much for stereotypes.

Didn’t know if he’d see it again,

His late-staying feathered friend…

So he wished him a living

The day before Thanksgiving,

Whatever the future would portend.

LEFT ALONE

LEFT ALONE

On a cold November afternoon,

Momma goose with the broken wing…

Wandered around down by the pond

Remembering everything.

Her family had flown south

With the rest of the geese living there…

Momma goose with the broken wing,

Couldn’t fly or get in the air.

Sometimes one or two would stay,

The younger ones not full-grown…

But this year it seems she’s left with her dreams

To waddle through snow alone.
