Food pantry left us pretzels
So-called “Buffalo wing -flavored…”
They take some getting used to
A lot of taste to be savored!

actually “pretzel bits”,
Soaked and suitably drenched…
with all that can be managed
Until the taste buds are benched!

We didn’t try the jalapeno,
Probably too much…
“Hot” for our digestions–
So those we didn’t touch!

Bit into cinnamon roll…
Taste buds react
THIS IS EXACT!
Flavor to extoll.

Wrapped unconventionally,
Came from the Food Pantry…
No cardboard this,
Glad not to miss
A wonderfully flavored dainty!

How do I describe its taste?
Not to be eaten in haste…
Melting icing sticks
To famished lips,
Its flavor, taste buds to baste.
–
Cinnamon, raisins and butter,
Nor will the supplicant utter…
A word for a while,
Then break out a smile,
The troll is a giver-upper!

BREAD DAY
Tuesday—Bread Day–from the Food Pantry,
Gathering people for the food for free…
Bread and pastries, vegetables sometimes
Hard-put to make it–except for folks so kind.
–
Local church gathers day-old bread
And what seconds that the stores shed…
Compassion recycles food to those in need,
Christian strength in spirit and in deed!

FOOD LIGHTENS MY DAY (!)
With a faceful of peanut butter,
All I can do is mutter….
Send pages of “mumfff,”
Not a triumph
On loudspeaker, who’d hear me utter?

Santa has a “bowlful of jelly”
For a round and ample belly…
But for we fat folks
The butt of jokes,
It’s only fun for characters on the telly.*
–
For supper, chicken BBQ,
I eat my leftovers too…
Food pantry ware
Keeps us from despair,
While politicians have their own queue.
