FORSYTHIA PHALANXES

FORSYTHIA PHALANXES

Knobby stems start to sprout,

But not with green leaves….

Rather with yellow flowers shout:

Welcome back, you bees!

Yellow flowing over walls,

Trellises like waterfalls…

Exploding the brown of spring

Till flowers and grass appear!

Some are bushes strictly trimmed,

Others growing pale and slim…

Forsythia roams around

Wherever it can grow!

Thankful we, for instant light,

That promises a “real good” fight…

Vanquishing the doldrums here

By many yellow sprouts!

FORSYTHIA PROFUSION

FORSYTHIA PROFUSION

In the April-May continuum,

So gardeners might say…

The pre-leaf flowering forsythia

Puts on a grand display;

Yellow flowers open in droves

Along the pithy stems,

Singly, bushes or in banks

They are the creme of cremes.

Brightness on a cloudy day,

Bright yellow that warms

Amid the April showers,

Hosting bee swarms;

Then the leaves come out in time

And green below stem skins,

That yellow blast of sunlight cast

Proves springtime weather wins!
