HUMAN NATURE DITTY

HUMAN NATURE DITTY

Young parents today have fits

When kids go through similar bits…

As they did

Feeling themselves amid,

Afraid they’ll be hypocrites.

So their children consigned to burn

While parents withhold what they’ve learned…

Thinking unfair

That THEY were there,

Parental responsiblity spurned!

We’re all susceptible to greed,

Lust overpowering need…

Easier to play

When the debt’s far away,

And the repo man can’t draw a bead.*

Each generation relaxes

A little in child rearing practice…

Til someone comes around

And lays their foot down,

Reversing the practice that taxes!

Some things I don’t understand,

Why…I’m a childless man…

No fault then that

Handling a brat

Is not something that I can.

I see and observe in life,

Which helps, because my wife…

Makes sure I learn

More in turn,

Between us we’ll have less strife!

* to draw a bead…or, to draw a bead on…to aim at.

TO EDIT OR NOT…

TO EDIT OR NOT…

We Poets have inspiration

Where words and phrases just flow…

Out from within ourselves,

From where–we don’t always know.

Much like a prophet serving a god

We oft let it come out straight….

Fearing that editing will cause loss

Of feelings and insights great.

Thusly we must choose–

How much do we think we’ll lose?

Focussing into the mark,

Some chose to sharpen their stakes…

For pin-point accuracy

Poets do whatever it takes!

All great poets, you see,

Work hard to turn a phrase….

Some have worked for months

To visibly their skills raise.

Who am I if not

A follower in that path….

If I stay poetically

A child, hear my reviewer’s wrath!

One poet said I had rhythm,

Didn’t praise me for my rhyme…

I’m working to improve my skill

That his praise will be earned next time.

GOOSE CROSSING!!!

GOOSE CROSSING!!!

Road hazard upon the walk,

A reason for the rush hour balk…

Are geese in a line

Walking in time,

Listening to the elder ones talk!

The crèche* is growing up fast,

Oh childhood for them never lasts….

Being led across the ramp

To where grass is damp,

To wash down frequent repasts.

*crèche is a goose nursery group led by one or more pair of adults
