STORM BULLET DODGED

STORM BULLET DODGED

WHEW–we made it past,

A little snow left on the grass…

Rain turned icy,

Morning drives dicey,

Thank goodness it melted fast!

I had to drive yesterday,

Don’t tell anyone…okay?…

My weakening leg

Forced me to beg

For an end to our delightful forray.

What a joy to shop on our own,

Getting brands we really wanted to take home…

Gathering supplies,

Both mine and Di’s,

A high point in our tome!

WEATHER-POET’S UPDATE

WEATHER-POET’S UPDATE

Not that anyone cares

But we’re sailing through rainy airs…

Sprinkles at first,

Near the end is the worst

Freezing rain and snow declared.

It’s around this time of year

That my goose pimples appear…

Having crashed on ice

The driving’s not nice,

And in a matter of seconds–disappears!

My worst crash ever, I found,

Just past the crash site, treated ground…

I lost control

Which took its toll

On the other car, elsewhere bound.

That crash was over and done,

But was not the only one…

Each in turn

One must re-earn

Self-confidence for the next run.

Every year…the same struggle…

When under the covers I’d snuggle,

But must go forth

And face traffic court,

Should the driving skills tumble!

ODD TIMING?

ODD TIMING?

How is it that as we speak,

There’s a sudden ice melt leak…

No salt in Worcester*

To pass roadway muster,

These hills have climbing mystique.

At home the same is true,

Back-ordered stuff hasn’t come through…

Hall buckets are shorted

And folks have resorted

To getting their own supply, too.

Is this a coincidence,

It would be a conspiracy immense…

Me thinks in due courses

Normal market forces

Will put supply back in present tense.

SNOW TOTALS

SNOW TOTALS

(To “The Yellow Rose of Texas”)

I’ve heard that fourteen inches

Is possible ’round here,

It’s not the snow that bothers me

But icy roads I fear…

Down in Douglas we had rain,

A drizzle so nice–

I’m just afraid when I go home

It all will turn to ice!

Oh, the sanders and the snowplows,

They are my greatest friends…

I know that they’ll be working

Until this storm ends…

I don’t begrudge them coffee breaks

Or taking time to eat,

If they work on until it’s done

They all deserve a treat!

It only took an hour

On slippery roads today,

To drive north to my job

Along the State Highway…

A couple plow phalanxes

I followed going slow,

Kept me safe and made the roads

Safe for all to go!

Oh…the sanders and the snowplows…

They are my greatest friends,

I know that they’ll be working

Until the need ends…

I don’t begrudge them coffee breaks

Or taking time to eat,

If they work on until it’s done

They all deserve a treat!

A NEW ROAD SALT MARKET

A NEW ROAD SALT MARKET

I’ll bet some salesperson targets

Those brand-new Georgia markets…

Two inches of snow

And NOBODY goes,

Taking weeks to clean up the carcass.
