ON THE JOB TRAINING

ON THE JOB TRAINING

I called for a hoagie today,

Delivered in the usual way…

She said, “What’s a special?”

It tested her mettle,

But found out the answer okay.

Choosing lines for lunch,

We often play a hunch…

To find if we will

A cashier skilled,

Where the line is not waiting and bunched!

I hope my food comes soon,

With new folks one can’t assume…

Learning their craft

Just new from the draft

That they’ll find the place or the room.

Last night, received a phone call,

From a driver needing help to resolve….

A “GPS” that

Refused flat

To give our address at all!

Having worked in the fast food trade,

Of some procedures be afraid…

Causing great furor

With “mustard burgers”

With cheese–not on the hit parade.  😦

My order arrived in good time,

The driver was experienced and kind…

We had a warm smile

For order taking style,

And tipped him for his extra daily grind.

PUG-UGLY PEOPLE

PUG-UGLY PEOPLE

A pug dog, great joy exudes,

Pug-uglies have bad attitudes…

They kick someone down

Who’s ready to drown,

They’re real ugly gals and dudes.

A friend I knew was grieving

The loss of her son, no deceiving…

Her son they said

Had wound up dead

Because of drugs he was thieving.

What good does that do her vows,

To be trashed by two-legged “cows”…

Who gives not a damn

That it might be a scam,

With an unfeeling drop-kick across her bow?

Pug-ugly is not based upon looks,

Some beauties have wicked left hooks…

While a pug is so kind

To the blemish he’s blind,

Pug-uglies–kindness forsook!

UNFRAMED BUT VALUED

UNFRAMED….BUT VALUED

A “thank you” hangs on my wall,

From a neighbor thankful for all…

Of a poet’s kindness

Her dog to address,

A worthy addition to our hall.

Her handwriting is just fine,

A bigger sight finer than mine…

No need for cards,

Sensitive bards

Are happy to be kept in mind!

THE FORGOTTEN ITEM TURNAROUND

THE FORGOTTEN ITEM TURNAROUND

(“Yellow Rose of Texas”)

THE Forgotten Item Turnaround

You see it every day,

Employees do “one-eighties”

Before they drive away…

They come back through the doorway

Their keys or cell to find,

‘Though sometimes they get to the car

Before it comes to mind!

One pesky guard once worked here

Would pester everyone,

And often make suggestions

Before targets could run…

We find it best to not advise

Before folks really need,

Embarrassment in no-wise

Helps them to succeed!

Oh, the employee turnaround

It doesn’t seem quite fair,

For folks with such abilities

To not remember where…

So, treat them gently like you would

Have others treating you,

Some kindness goes a long way

To help us all get through!

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN!

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN! 🙂

Occasionally once in a while,

A woman will make me smile…

No harm will be done

But she is the one

Whom from I’d accept her guile.

Not saying that I’d leave my wife,

To do so is risking my life…

But to some fair maid

My eyes are bade,

For whom warm feelings are rife.

This object of silent ardor

Is not pursued any harder…

But kept in mind

As one very kind,

The memories of her fill my larder.

I’ve gotten in trouble before

By opening up a closed-door…

The temptation to

I hope is all through,

Extricating myself was a chore!

So pardon me should I gaze

And ever-so-slightly o’er glaze…

Look quickly away,

Sighing as to say

For now with her I am amazed.
