THE LOST CONTRACT
I worked today into evening
Covering for a boss at the site…
That was once my operation,
Another company’s fight.
Our management treated us idiotic,
Really not telling us a thing…
Until in one short weekend
Our contract felt the ax swing!
It hurt just as much as when fired,
I was second in command…
Hurt that our account manager
Easily allowed us canned.
Taking ownership of a job site
I did and did my best…
Can’t understand why we lost it,
The thought has never allowed me rest.
The first few years of my working
At the site where I am now…
I was accused of trying too hard,
Pushing to make up for that blow.
Been back several times to cover
The gates at “my” old site…
The company that took over,
Took over US another night.
I can’t help but show some hustle
If that would ever repay….
A long-time-ago contract,
That haunts me to this day.
