COLD SNAP HAIKU

“COLD SNAP” HAIKU

Pity poor peepers,

Stiff cloacas do not help!

When bodies are too.

Snow blowers and plows

Get one last fling before Spring..

.Or rather–in it!

Snow and rain the same,

Draining experiences…

Both can change your plans!

RUSHING ‘ROUND THE CORNER

RUSHING ‘ROUND THE CORNER

Hear that wind just shrieking

On a sunny day…

Rushing ’round my end apartment,

Is a storm on its way?

‘Though its bright and sunny

Saturday afternoon…

I heard these same shrieks at night

With or without the moon!

We’re on an outside corner,

A tree wind tunnel nearby…

Can’t say I’m always comfortable

When those dead leaves fly!

TRACKS IN THE SNOW

TRACKS IN THE SNOW

Watching the melting snow,

I see foot prints onward go…

It looks like deer

But see here,

Those are webbed feet impressions, you know!

Momma goose, or maybe the gander,

Took time in the day to wander…

Away from the pond

To farther beyond,

Searching for grass by meander?

The tracks went only one way

But the gate was open all day…

Maybe Momma decided

She was sore-sided

And returned another way!

THE LO-O-O-O-O-ONE GREAT BLUE HERON!

THE LO-O-O-O-O-ONE  GREAT   HERON!

On this darkening November day,

A Great Blue Heron assayed…

To fly overhead

A young driver said,

Across his lane of a rain-soaked highway.

He thought the bird would have flown

South before snow fall had grown…

His migratory

Knowledge of the story

Was rather poorly known!

Perhaps, like other types

Of migratory birds, he’d no gripes…

With staying around

And fish to be found,

So much for stereotypes.

Didn’t know if he’d see it again,

His late-staying feathered friend…

So he wished him a living

The day before Thanksgiving,

Whatever the future would portend.
