TANKA AND HAIKU ASSORTMENT

TANKA AND HAIKU ASSORTMENT FOR MEMORIAL DAY

(To keep blogging…I gotta keep writing!)

Memories still sting

Of loved ones gone to battle,

Not so long ago…

Death rattles’ painful image,

Softened because they’re at peace.

Distant grave await

The trumpet’s call to freedom

Few expect to hear!

Many nights we cried,

For young people lost in lands

Where we never went…

Some surprised us at the door,

Some have never been confirmed!

Mainstream media

Too cheap to set aside time

For those who gave all.

Flowers sprout on graves,

American flags renewed…

Showing someone cares:

Looted medallions sold,

Kids whose memories are cheap.

Millions remember

Where valor is still valued

Sacrifice mattered.

Many old movies,

All that money–nothing new?

Corporations don’t…

Christian networks do the most,

Special networks fan the flame.

Rhine bridge was intact

“Padre was busy”

Won’t happen today!

D-DAY REMEMBRANCES

D-DAY REMEMBRANCES

(opinion)

Her Dad remembered D-Day,

Helped mop up the scene, by the way…

At horrible cost

We saved what was lost,

A debt never repaid.

My Dad didn’t actually shoot,

Four-F, never put on boots…

But made ammunition

To fight imposition

Of repressive Hitler offshoots.

Our current leaders will bask

In glories of a valiant past…

No one need remind

They’re not the same kind

Of people who shouldered that task!

FED TO THE WOLVES

FED TO THE WOLVES

(An opinion about U.S. healthcare policy)

I thought we would be okay,

If the hardship hitting others stayed away…

But, no such luck,

We too, got stuck

In the national melee!

It was relatively easy to fix,

Being caught between and betwixt…

Left her on the phone

Getting back her own

Policy that had been nixed.

I grow angrier yet,

How more stupid can it get…

Our national leaders

Think we all are bleeders

For something they ignored to vet!

“Who cares if it don’t work,

“Use it anyway,” the chain jerked…

We’ve all got chain collars

And pay many dollars

For a coffeemaker that won’t perk.

We had a social worker advise

To cut all former ties…

That we HAD TO join in

The vast luny bin,

And then comes the big surprise.

I think we’ll be rectified,

Assuming no more have lied…

To keep what we’ve got,

What’s left in the pot

To pay our bills and survive.

WHY THINGS ARE GETTING WORSE???

WHY THINGS ARE GETTING WORSE???

(opinion)

According to Mr. Snowden,

Attache’ to Russian affairs…

Spying has gotten greater,

Perpetrators are putting on airs.

Documents Snowden recovered

Show spymasters webmasters are…

I guess once controls are lifted,

Results can be bizarre.

I wonder if Russian Intelligence

Would open their files for him…

That he might publish the obvious,

By any particular whim?

INTERNET WARS I DISLIKE!

INTERNET WARS I DISLIKE!

(opinion)

Don’t know why I’ve lost connections

To my poetry feed…

Have tried to “re-up” more than twice,

I think I’ve a right to be “peed”.

But it doesn’t MATTER to the big boys

As they sling their words around…

The little folk (we) get smushed along the way

Whenever innuendo hits ground.

Everyone seems to be changing

And “community” gets pulled apart…

Keeping up with the big boys’ master plans

Takes more than a Master of Arts.

I guess I’ve got to go back and re-learn

How to make my Hotmail swing…

It’s the only place my poetry goes

Other than that, I can hardly do a thing!

AFTER THE ELECTION

AFTER THE ELECTION…

The day after “our side”

Lost in a way we couldn’t abide,

Is all that we said

Forgotten and dead,

Or is it the start of a slide?

Not everyone in the world

Looks at the vindictiveness hurled…

As political game

In another name,

Just rhetoric ’til next time is squirreled.

What of the Christian’s light,

Even if we are proved right…

Was love our aim

Or merely blame,

For things we didn’t see as right?

Was our message always Christ-led,

Or was our messages heisted…

By innuendo,

Short-term goals to show,

That hidden worldly zeitgeist?

Facebook had more than one spot

Around me where tempers got rather hot…

Are those the faces

We show world races,

That God is Love, but we are not?

The damage is done, I know,

And who am I, but the average “Joe”…

Godly communities

Ought to fall on their knees

And repent of political blow.
