DEFERRED MAINTENANCE

Related image

GENESEE AND WYOMING bought,

PROVIDENCE AND WORCESTER stock…

At crossings I see

New grass frequently,

Where once I saw only rock!

Sadly I watch the downgrade,

Of physical plant improvements made…

It is a let down

Seeing grass newly grown,

Like this buyout wasn’t the best trade?-

Less-used spurs look like this too,

A shock for this railfan true-blue…

Grass along the ties–

Most think it small-sized,

But what else will  they not do?

An opinion of the author–above image is an example of–not the real grassy track referred to–which is at the Hartford Street  crossing in North Uxbridge, Massachusetts.

SAW A TRAIN!!!

SAW A TRAIN!!!

It sounds like a foolish refrain,

But I actually saw a train…

At North Uxbridge crossing

It was so engrossing*

I wanted to see it again!

Coming back the other way,

I saw that train had stayed…

Didn’t stop to inquire

What had transpired,

It was in Worcester later that day.

* crossing…engrossing…an example of rhyming by spelling–even if they sound differently.  Same literary device used by train…refrain…again.

TRAINS ON SCHEDULE

TRAINS ON SCHEDULE

One of the joys of that gate house

Is hearing a train working near…

Providence and Worcester Railroad trains

Often do appear.

Climbing the hill out of Worcester,

Going to Gardiner, Mass…

Up in early afternoon

And back down when sunset is passed.

Lots or interesting freight cars

Appear on the monitor screen…

Provided so that we can see

If a vehicle goes where it means…!

Return trains run in darkness,

Screeching like a slythering ghost…

Despite the hardships of the gatehouse

This scheduled show means the most!!!!
