The “CF-7” is the product of taking all useable parts of an EMD E-7 diesel electric locomotive, adding new and remanufactured parts, to produce a locomotive with long and short body hoods in a road-switcher format…in the mid-to late 1960’s

The Atchison Topeka and Santa Railroad rebuilt many of their F-7’s this way and many of these rebuilds still haul freight for short line railroads, like the Grafton and Upton. The Pioneer Valley Railroad, in Westfield, Mass., has a small fleet of them in operation.
