A MATTER OF ASSUMING

A MATTER OF ASSUMING

A friend wanting me to explain,

A poem of mine ’bout a train…

Numbers made no sense,

Translation immense

Made it less pleasurable in quatrain.*

I think I assumed too much

On identification and such…

With the system I used

Other folks were confused,

And that garbled the message a touch.

Have to remember not all are rail fans,

When plotting my poetry plans…

For easier cognitions

Provide definitions

Making certain the reader understands!

–Jonathan Caswell

* quatrain…a four-line stanza.  Actually, I use this, plus, more often, a five-line stanza in limerick-styled form.  🙂

ADIRONDACK RAILROADS

ADIRONDACK RAILROADS

Forests hide history,

Old grades degrade as we see…

New highways built

For new money spilt,

Consigning trains to memory.

But the North Creek to Tahawus line,

Is restored and running fine…

Wood products, stone

And garnet hone

The edges of rails redefined!
