FRIDAY THE 13TH…MY LUCKY DAY !

FRIDAY THE 13TH—MY LUCKY DAY

My first full day of freedom,

No medic restrictions in play…

‘Though I’m not much for superstition

I’m lucky and blessed this Friday !

At last–after months–I’m driving,

My job is waiting for me…

I can drop off the income tax forms

And get home by afternoon tea.

The home office wants me to visit

To sign releases and forms…

Get a drug test and wait for the answers,

Out of work this long–that’s the norm!

My health insurance is ending,

My wife’s “S.S.I.” ain’t enough…

I have to get back earning income

‘Cause making ends meet is rough!

THE TASK HAS BEGUN

THE TASK HAS BEGUN

He waited in the little room

While people passed him by…

Some to sit and wait like him

And others passed heaving  sighs.

His was the next in line

When a bright face appeared…

Ushered into a room down the hall,

For paperwork commandeered!

A little longer to sit,

All but one was different this time…

Started a magazine–another to read–

Then heard his name next in line.

Tried to find his sea legs

Sitting in a comfortable chair…

Trying to answer questions

While not giving into despair.

Common ground and background

Led to an hour’s discussion…

Saw the need wasn’t fixed with speed,

To handle this particular depression.

Coming back next week to see

What can be started…

Hopeful signs of confluent lines,

Toward healing of what smarted.
