SPRINGTIME SURPRISE
Rivers running down the driveway,
A flooded basement pumps away…
Filled-in swamp land
A developer’s plan,
To sell houses on sunny days!

CRY ME A RIVER
The apartments we live in
Were built on swamp land
And when it rains,
Our driveway is grand…
With a flow of water
From stem to stern,
The septic tank floods
(Oh when will they learn)
That using wetlands
Accordingly will
Make rivers of driveways
Where floodwaters spill.
–
When we moved out here
The first job I got
Was in a restaurant
With a swampy back lot…
Water barely touched
The back edges when “dry”
But let it rain
And the lot would subside
Under the waters
To the dumpster cage,
Some ducks near the drive-through
I’m sure came of age…
That restaurant is gone—
It’s a pizza place now—
The ice in the lot
Must be a bugger to plow!
